Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (2/11/2014) – Chestnut Hill College overcame a 28-17 first-half rebounding edge to trail Philadelphia University by five points, 38-33, at halftime of tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. The second half was a different story as the Lady Rams shot 62.5% (20-of-32) from the field to separate from the Griffins for an 85-59 win. Junior guard
Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J.) led the home effort with 14 points, five rebounds, an assist, three blocks, and a steal.
Philadelphia University (16-5, 14-0) snuck out for a ten point, 20-10, with sophomore forward Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa.) hitting a pair of free throws at 8:22 of the opening half. But with a three pointer from sophomore guard
Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.), a layup from senior forward
Annie Farrow (Ocean Township, Pa.), and a jumper from junior guard
Shayla Felder (Cheltenham, Pa.), Chestnut Hill College (7-15, 5-10) quickly closed the gap to three points, 20-17, just past the seven-minute mark (6:55). The Lady Ram lead would linger there until 3:41, 29-26, the visitors went on a brief 5-0 run, 34-26, only for the Griffins to cut the margin to five points, 38-33, by intermission. Unfortunately, after the break it was all Lady Rams with sophomore forward Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa.) leading the visitors to an 85-59 victory.
Newell led five Lady Rams in double figures with 18 points on 8-of-14 (.571) shooting and a 2-of-2 (1.000) effort from the free throw line. She also recorded nine rebounds. Her classmate, guard Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished second in scoring with 14 points to go along with three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Townsend-Mobley was 4-of-9 (.444) from the floor and hit all six of her free throws, 6-of-6 (1.000), in her team-leading scoring effort. Senior center
Aimee Bouie (New Castle, Del.) supported Townsend-Mobley with 12 points, four rebounds, an assist, and a block.
The women's basketball team continues their CACC schedule at Post University on Saturday, February 15, when they visit the Eagles for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
