2/25/2014 11:26:00 PM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (2/25/2014) – Chestnut Hill College came away on the short end of a sloppy Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) affair, as Holy Family University turned a narrow halftime advantage, 26-25, into a 12-point win, 73-61, with a superior second-half effort. Senior guard Jakeem Bogans (Philadelphia, Pa.) led four Griffins in double figures with 15 points, hitting 3-of-5 (.600) from long range and grabbing five rebounds in the season finale.

Junior forward Filip Sekulic (Danilovgrad, Montenegro) came off the Chestnut Hill College (10-16, 8-11) bench to keep the Griffins in contention during the first half. He scored all 11 of his points in the period but in a back-and-forth tempo that comes with 48 combined turnovers, the Griffins gradually lost ground to Holy Family University (19-9, 13-6). The Tiger advantage would reach as many as 11 points, 19-8 at 10:45, before a four-point play from Sekulic inspired the Griffins for a 13-7 closing stretch that left deficit at one point, 26-25, by intermission. Following the break, the Griffins were not as fortunate with the Tiger lead growing to as many as 19 points, 65-46 at 3:24, before settling on a 73-61 final.

Senior guard Ervin Ezell (Deptford, N.J.) and sophomore forward Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Tigers with 13 points apiece; Ezell paired his scoring effort with three rebounds, 12 assists, two blocks, and three steal while Stewart completed the double-double with ten rebounds, an assist, and three steals. Senior guard Alberto Munoz (Morrisville, N.C.) and sophomore guard Turhan Griffin (Philadelphia, Pa.) offered 11 points apiece.

Bogans led the Griffins second-half effort with ten of his 15 points coming in the closing period. In addition to Sekulic's first-half performance, he received 13 points, three rebounds, one assist, and two steals worth of support from graduate guard Taylor Trevisan (West Chester, Pa.), and 11 points, three rebounds, an assist, and a steal from sophomore guard Dexter Harris (Swedesboro, N.J.).

With Goldey-Beacom College's loss to Philadelphia University, the Chestnut Hill College men's basketball reaches CACC postseason play for the sixth straight season. At 10-16 overall and 8-11 in the CACC, the Griffins will serve as the #4 seed in the CACC South and therefore oppose the top seed from the CACC North, Bloomfield College, in an Opening Round contest on Saturday, March 1.
