Lady Rams Run Away In Women’s Lacrosse CACC Opener

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (3/11/2014) – Today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener up belonged to Philadelphia University as the Lady Rams raced ahead of Chestnut Hill College for a 19-6 win. Sophomore attack Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa.) led the Lady Rams offense with five goals while freshman midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) put three shots to the back of the net for the Griffins.
 
Philadelphia University (1-1, 1-0) quickly grabbed the upper hand over Chestnut Hill College (0-4, 0-1) with a six-goal run, 6-0, before senior attack Kelly Campbell (Hatboro, Pa.) put a halt on the streak with a free position goal at 17:59, 6-1. But another string of Lady Ram goals put the visitors up 9-1, before an O'Leary goal at 9:07 put the second Griffin tally on the scoreboard, 9-2. Unfortunately, the Lady Rams scored twice more before intermission, 11-2, and eight times afterwards to separate from the Griffins for a 13-goal win, 19-6.
 
Mower's effort was complimented by graduate attack Kristen Blye (Chester Springs, Pa.), who scored three goals to go along with an assist and a draw control. Junior attack Elizabeth Marrosu (Flemington, N.J.), sophomore midfielder Katelynn Parent (Millville, N.J.), and senior midfielder Libby Nichols (Ellicott City, Md.) each scored two goals for the Lady Rams. In goal, junior Kristen Moran (Walden, N.Y.) earned the win (1-1) with seven saves and two ground balls.
 
For the Griffins, O'Leary was backed up by freshman midfielder Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.), who scored two goals in addition to a draw control, a caused turnover, and a groundball. Campbell accounted for the remaining Griffin goal while sophomore midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) provided two assists, a ground ball, and seven draw controls. Freshman goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) took the loss (0-4) despite 15 saves, two ground balls, and a caused turnover.
 
The women's lacrosse team remains home, but briefly breaks from CACC play to host Molloy College in a 1:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, March 15.
