Alicia Herbert (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) finished a 5-1 Griffin run that tied the contest at 11-11 with 9:36 left to play. Unfortunately, Wilmington University's junior attack Katie Spence (North East, Md.) was the last to put the ball in the back of the net, scoring the Wildcats final two tallies in a 13-11 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win.
Spence got the home team started, scoring Wilmington University's (3-3, 2-0) first goal at 26:24, 1-0, and finding junior midfielder Madeline Hewitt (Darlington, Md.) just 19 seconds later (26:05) to give the Wildcats a 2-0 edge. Sophomore midfielder
Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) directed the Chestnut Hill College (0-7, 0-2) response that brought the Griffins to a 5-4 lead at 9:56 of the opening half, but the Wildcats echoed the Griffin rally with a 4-1 run to intermission, 8-6. They made the spread 10-6 with the first two goals of the second half only another Griffin comeback to eventually even the fray at 11-11 (9:36). Five different Griffins scored in that 5-3 stretch, but Spence first deposited a free position shot at 8:37, 12-11, before providing an insurance goal just before the three-minute mark (3:09), 13-11.
Spence lead the Wildcats with four goals, an assist, and two ground balls. Three other recorded three points; one was Hewitt, who scored three goals, recover three ground balls, and caused two turnovers, another was junior midfielder Rebekah McCurry (St. Leonard, Md.), who offered a goal, two assists, five ground balls, two draws, and three caused turnovers, and a third was junior midfielder Megan Keffer (Wilmington, Del.) with two goals, an assist, three ground balls, seven draws, and a caused turnover. In goal, senior goalkeeper Corinne Dries (Bear, Del.) earned the win with nine (3-3) saves and two ground balls.
Keimig was the Griffins top producer with four points on two goals and two assists, but freshman midfielder
Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) led the Griffins in scoring with three goals in addition to five ground balls and a draw control. Five others recorded at least a point, while freshman defender
Tizana Hoggs (Columbus, N.J.) supported freshman goalkeeper
