Mariano Porter (Cuemacava, Mexico) and
Pedro Oranges (Sao Paulo, Brazil) went undefeated for the day as the Chestnut Hill College duo won individually and teamed for number two doubles wins in victories over Walsh University, 6-3, and Post University, 6-3. The Griffin women loss to the Cavaliers 6-3 with points coming at number one doubles, number three doubles, and number five singles.
The Chestnut Hill College tennis teams first faced Walsh University in a dual match before the men squared off against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Post University in a late afternoon match. The Griffin women (13-4) grabbed an early 2-1 edge in their match against the Cavaliers (17-7) with junior
Charlotte Dawson (Odessa, Texas) and senior
Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio) winning the top team flight by default while sophomore
Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) and junior
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) won number three doubles 8-4. But things fell apart in singles play as only sophomore
Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) scored an individual win with her 7-5, 6-4 triumph at number five singles, 6-3.
For the Griffin men (5-2), a 2-1 doubles edge against Walsh University (8-5) led to an eventual 6-3 win with Porter, senior
Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France), junior
Steven Say (Cannes, France), and Oranges winning number one, two, five, and six singles respectively. Against the Eagles, the Griffins swept doubles play, 3-0, before splitting singles competition with wins from Say, sophomore
Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.), and senior
Jeramy Solema (Jamaica, N.Y.) securing another 6-3 victory.
The men's and women's tennis team will face the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) tomorrow, Wednesday, March 5, in a 12:00 p.m. dual match.
