Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/9/2014) – Sophomore second baseman Julie Heaton (Berlin, N.J.) went 4-for-5 in the opener, including a sixth-inning triple that brought home two Chestnut Hill College runs in a 12-9 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory. In contrast to the game-one slugfest, the University of the Sciences was the winner of a game-two pitcher's duel, 1-0.

Chestnut Hill College (6-16, 6-8) had base runners in the first, second, fourth, and sixth innings of game two. Meanwhile the University of the Sciences (6-18, 5-9) mustered the contest's only run in the fourth inning with a lead-off single, a stolen base, and two sacrifices separating them from the Griffins. Freshman pitcher Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif.) struck out five and took the loss (3-7) for the Griffins despite only allowing two hits and a walk. She was narrowly out-done by freshman pitcher Nicole Ayers (Abbottstown, Pa.) (3-4), who allowed four hits and two walks while striking out 11.

The Bats were the stars of game one as the local CACC rivals combined to score 21 runs on 25 hits. The Griffins won battles in the first, third, sixth, and seventh innings to come from behind for the 12-9 victory. Heaton's first-inning singled knocked in the Griffins first run and a Devil error permitted the second run to score, 2-0. The Devils got one run back in the bottom of the frame, 2-1, and tied it by the end of the second inning with a lead-off triple and a pair of singles, 3-3. The Griffins took a 6-3 advantage in the third inning with a singles from sophomore designated player Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) and sophomore catcher Sofia Cedrone (Philadelphia, Pa.) capitalizing on a lead-off double from senior first baseman Giana Cavallo (Turnersville, Pa.). Unfortunately, the Devils brought home five runs in the fourth inning, 8-6, and one in the sixth inning, 9-6, to put the pressure on Griffins heading to the later innings. The comeback was a team effort with a sixth-inning lead-off walk to sophomore pitcher Kaitlyn Johnson (New Boston, N.H.), a sacrifice, a walk and a Heaton triple and another Devil error evening the game at 9-9 before a seventh-inning lead-off single from sophomore shortstop Allie Williams (Warrenton, Va.), an error, a hit batsman, a Heaton single, and a Cavallo double brought home three insurance runs in a 12-9 triumph.

The softball team returns to campus to host Dominican College in a 12:00 p.m. CACC doubleheader on Saturday, April 12.
