Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 New Castle, Del. – (4/2/2014) – In today's replay of the 2013 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship, #19 Wilmington University proved to be the better squad once again, defeating Chestnut Hill College in both ends of a doubleheader, 6-0 and 14-0. Sophomore first baseman Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.) led the Griffins with three hits (3-for-7), including two game-one doubles.

Wilmington University (16-4-1, 6-2) wasted no time, scoring in their first at-bat, 1-0, and three others en route to a 6-0 win in the opener. Chestnut Hill College (7-9, 4-2) could only muster three hits and a walk as junior pitcher Rob Gore (Broomall, Pa.) earned the win (3-0) with nine strikeouts over seven innings. Campion doubled in both the fifth and eighth innings, but the only other Griffin to get in scoring position was sophomore left fielder Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.), who singled and stole second base with two outs in the fourth inning.

The Griffins touched the Wildcat pitching staff for seven hits and drew a walk, but big innings in the first, 4-0, fourth, 9-0, and eighth innings carried the Wildcats to 14-0 win. Senior second baseman Mark Woltemate (Philadelphia, Pa.) singled in his first two at-bats but was one of three consecutive outs that spoiled the Griffins best scoring opportunity of the afternoon. A pinch-hit, lead-off walk from junior Allen Umbenhauer (Whitehall, Pa.), a Wildcat error, and a stolen base by freshman pinch-runner Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) put a Griffin 90 feet from home. Unfortunately, nothing came of the chance as the next three Griffins to bat were retired K, F8, and P1.

The baseball team plays their next CACC doubleheader at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, when they visit Bloomfield College at Yogi Berra Stadium of Little Falls, New Jersey.
