Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/22/2014) – A late game one rally was the turning point in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader as Philadelphia University defeated Chestnut Hill College 7-6 in eight innings of game one before sweeping the twin bill with a 6-3 win in game two. Sophomore third baseman
Laura Eidam (South Salem, N.Y.) recorded three hits (3-for-7) and five runs-batted-in (RBI) with a two-run double in game one and a three-run homerun in game two.
After Philadelphia University's (24-11, 14-9) extra-inning win in game one, the Lady Rams owned a 4-0 lead when Eidam's smash tightened things in the fourth inning of game two, 4-3. Unfortunately, the homerun was all Chestnut Hill College (6-26, 6-18) could muster against junior pitcher Nicole Troisi (Norristown, Pa.), who kept the Griffins off balance the rest of the way in a 6-3 victory (7-5).
The Griffins had high hopes for the afternoon after scoring four runs in their first at-bat. A lead-off single from sophomore designated player
Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.), an error, a catcher's interference, a two run single from sophomore shortstop
Emily Soller (Bel Air, Md.), and a single to right field from sophomore catcher
Sofia Cedrone (Philadelphia, Pa.) facilitated the big inning, 4-0, which survived until the top of the seventh inning, 4-3. That is when a double from sophomore pitcher Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz.) and a single up the middle from sophomore catcher Mollie Burrell (Harleysville, Pa.) brought all things even, 4-4. The Lady Rams used the momentum to put the pressure on with three runs in the top of the eighth inning, 7-4. But they nearly blew as an error, a hit batsman, and a walk loaded the bases for Eidam's two-run double, 7-6, before the game's final two outs.
The softball team concludes their 2014 season on Saturday, April 26, when they host Caldwell College for a CACC, Senior Day doubleheader.
