Cavallo Adds Celebration to Cougars CACC Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/26/2014) – After being recognized in annual Senior Day festivities, senior first baseman Giana Cavallo (Turnersville, N.J.) made Chestnut Hill College history with the 114th hit of her collegiate career. Cavallo tied the program's all-time hit mark in the first game of the afternoon with a third-inning homerun to right center, but the Caldwell College would come away as the victors in six innings, 12-3. The record-setter came in game two, where a second-inning single to left field giving the Griffins a celebratory moment in a 10-2, five-inning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss.
 
Caldwell College (38-4, 22-1) scored three runs in both of their first two chances at-bat, 6-0. Cavallo's third-inning, two-run homerun and two fourth-inning singles got Chestnut Hill College (6-28, 6-20) back into the fray, 7-3, but the Cougars added two runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth inning to end the first game an inning early, 12-3.
 
The second contest only went five innings with the Cougars scoring three runs in the first inning and seven more late in opposition to a two-run homerun from sophomore shortstop Emily Soller (Bel Air, Md.). In the Griffin half of the fourth inning, a lead-off single from sophomore second baseman Julie Heaton (Berlin, N.J.) turned into two Griffin runs with a two-out homerun from Soller. Unfortunately, the long ball only made the score 6-2 and did not slow the Cougars in a 10-2 win.
 
The softball team finishes the 2014 season 6-28 overall and 6-20 in the CACC.
