Box Score 2 Norristown, Pa. – (4/8/2014) – Chestnut Hill College emerged as the victor in the first game of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with a two-out triple from junior
Michael McLaughlin (Philadelphia, Pa.) providing the Griffins the opportunity to grab a 2-1 win in the opener. The Griffins would not be as fortunate in game two as the Golden Falcon pitching held the Griffins scoreless in a 5-0 final. Sophomore first baseman
Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.) recorded three hits (3-for-7) on the afternoon including two singles game one, and a second-inning double in game two.
Felician College (15-12, 7-3) carried a narrow 1-0 advantage for a majority of game two as a second-inning lead-off single turned into a run with a two-out single to left center field. Chestnut Hill College (10-10, 7-3) had trouble getting to junior pitcher Jack Fowler (Shrewsbury, N.J.), who earned the win (5-1) for the Golden Falcons with seven strikeouts over 6.1 scoreless innings. Their best scoring opportunity came in the seventh inning when a lead-off walk to junior shortstop
Preston Koehler (Bath, Pa.), a stolen base, and a single from senior second baseman
Mark Woltemate (Philadelphia, Pa.) resulted in an unsuccessful play at the plate.
In the opener, the Golden Falcons were first to break through the pitcher's duel, doing so on a homerun from sophomore first baseman Scott De Jong (North Haledon, N.J.), 1-0. Two at-bats later the Griffins reversed the roles as a lead-off single from Campion, a stolen base, and McLaughlin's two-out triple evening the score, 1-1, before a Woltemate single to left center field gave the Griffins a 2-1 advantage. Junior pitcher
Dane Gahr (Brick, N.J.) provided the strong start; 6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 3 K, before senior pitcher
John Bernhardt III (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) (2-3) and junior pitcher
Vincent Manzella (Matawan, N.J.) (2 Saves) took care of the rest with three innings of scoreless relief.
The baseball team resumes their CACC schedule at the University of the Sciences on Thursday, April 10, with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
