Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) did the work outside with a game-high 19 points and fellow senior
Tiffany Turner (Marlton, N.J.) took care of the inside on the way to a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double as the Griffins posted a season high in points.
After Georgian Court University (1-12, 1-7) pulled into a 22-22 tie (6:47), the sixth deadlock of the first half, Chestnut Hill College (4-10, 2-5) went on a 9-0 run capped by Gorczynski's 3-pointer, 31-22 (4:13). The Lions would cut into the deficit, closing the half on an 11-4 spurt to go into the break trailing just 35-33.
Georgian Court University took the lead, 38-37, at the 18:13 mark, but senior guard
Shayla Felder (Cheltenham, Pa.) buried a triple to give it back to the Griffins, who never trailed again. Chestnut Hill College gradually grew the advantage from there, going ahead by double digits for the first time on a free throw by Turner, 56-46, with 11:30 to play. Brianne Morgera (Newport, R.I.) at the 5:25 mark of the second half. The Lions got as close as 70-63 (1:23) in the waning moments before a 3-pointer by Gorczynski and a pair of foul shots from Turner pushed the lead back to a dozen, 75-63 (0:51), and the teams ended on a 79-69 decision.
Sophomore Morgan Peacock (Edison, N.J.) knocked down a plethora of mid-range jumpers en route to posting team highs of 19 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Tahira Matthews (Bloomfield, N.J.) bulled her way to 14 points and six rebounds inside, and she was joined in double figures by freshman guard Jess Placher (Cape Coral, Fla.), who canned four three-pointers for 12 points, and senior guard Jameka Parsons (Hillside, N.J.), 10 points.
Gorczynski finished 7-of-14 (50.0%) from the field and 4-of-9 (44.4%) from the three-point line, while Turner added three steals to her season-high point total and second double-double as a Griffin. Felder was a perfect 6-of-6 (100%) from the line, part of a 16-for-18 (88.9%) showing for Chestnut Hill College at the stripe; she offered 12 points with three assists. Freshman forward
Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.) was the fourth Griffin in double figures, offering 10 points, six rebounds, and four dimes. Chestnut Hill College notched season highs in points (75), assists (16), and field-goal percentage (47.5%).
Chestnut Hill College looks to build on its best offensive performance of the season when it heads to Goldey-Beacom College for a CACC showdown on Tuesday, January 13. Tip is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
