Tigers Slip Past Dickson-Led Griffins

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (1/17/2015) – A short drive down Roosevelt Boulevard brought Chestnut Hill College to Holy Family University for this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Behind junior Luke Dickson (Pitman, N.J.) the Griffins clung to a two-point lead, 26-24, heading to the final minutes of the first half. But by halftime the home team led by six, 32-26, and they never relinquished advantage in a 71-62 final. Dickson totaled 19 points in the contest matching the Tigers junior guard Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J.) for the game high.

Crawford was the focus of the Holy Family University (13-5, 7-2) offense early, opposing Chestnut Hill College's (4-12, 3-6) balanced game plan. Dickson was the top scorer in the effort, hitting two of his three, three-point attempts (2-of-3, 66.7%) and converting a three-point play late in the half to give the Griffins a 26-24 advantage. Unfortunately, a three-point play from junior guard Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa.) swung the edge back in the Tigers favor, 29-26, and inspired the home team to a to a 32-26 halftime lead.

After intermission, Dickson continued to spearhead the Griffins determined spirit. They His layup with 6:15 left to play brought the Griffins back within one point, 49-48, of the Tigers, who quickly reestablished a comfortable advantage behind the play of Charles. The Tiger playmaker made a steal, dished out two assists, and hit a three pointer to push the deficit back to eight points, 58-50, just past the four-minute mark (3:57). In the final minutes the Griffin labor to narrow the margin, but they would get no closer than five points, 58-53 (3:34), before the final buzzer rang on a 71-62 spread.

Crawford finished with 19 points, six rebounds, two assists, a block, and two steals atop the Tigers half of the box score. Charles was equally important with his 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and a steal. Junior forward Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the third Tigers in double figures, totaling 11 points.

Dickson hit four from long range (4-of-7, 57.1%) in a 6-of-11 (54.5%) shooting performance that was complimented by a perfect free throw effort (3-of-3, 100.0%). He also recorded three rebound and a steal. Senior guard Christian Walck (Lancaster, Pa.) was the only other Griffins to reach double figures. He scored 12 points to go along with his six rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Senior center Seamus Radtke (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman forward Edward McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) combined for 16 points and 13 rebounds in the paint.

The men's basketball team returns to action a week from now, Saturday, January 24, when they defend Sorgenti Arena against Concordia College (NY) in a 3:00 p.m. CACC contest.
