Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (1/7/2015) – On a night where Chestnut Hill College was the superior shooting team (36.2%-23.3%) and better rebounding squad (42-40) it was turnovers (29) that continued to serve as their kryptonite in a 45-39 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss at the University of the Sciences (USciences). Senior forward
Tiffany Turner (Marlton, N.J.) was the Griffins top performer with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Turner's inside play carried Chestnut Hill College (3-10, 1-5) to a 21-20 first-half lead. Totaling 12 points and five rebounds in the opening frame, the senior transfer helped the Griffins establish a 17-13 advantage just before the five-minute mark (5:12). But, senior guard Brianne Traub (Wayne, N.J.) and the Devils made those last five minutes interesting, cutting the deficit to one point, 19-18, on a pair of successful free throws a minute (1:10) prior to intermission.
Unfortunately, the second half quickly went the Devils way as the home team pulled away for a ten-point lead, 33-23 at 13:12, before freshman forward
Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.) and senior guard
Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J.) inspired the Griffins on a 14-8 run that kept the spread close, 41-37, heading to the final four minutes of play (4:14). But the Devils determined defense reared its head one more time, forcing five Griffin into five more turnovers before the final horn.
Traub paired her game-high 15 points with nine rebounds, three assists, and five steals. She got 11 points worth of support from freshman guard Sarah Abbonizio (West Chester, Pa.) and 11 rebounds from senior forward Isabella Ross (Philadelphia, Pa.).
Turner was 6-of-9 (66.7%) from the floor and 1-of-2 (50.0%) from the free throw line while Townsend-Mobley complimented her effort with ten points, three rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Parriski finished with six points, seven rebounds, and four steals.
The women's basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Saturday, January 10, for their first home game of 2015; tip-off against Georgian Court University is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m.
