Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer Senior Day 2015

Warriors Eke Past Griffins With Late Goal

10/24/2015 5:25:00 PM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/24/2015) – An ill-fated deflection in its defensive zone proved deadly for the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team this afternoon, as Nyack College senior midfielder Krystal Vega (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) took advantage of a wide-open net to claim a 1-0 victory for the visitors with an 86th minute strike (85:37).

After honoring its six-member Class of 2015 – forward Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.); midfielders Victoria Fedora (East McKeesport, Pa.), Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.), and Courtney Weidner (Philadelphia, Pa.); defender Stephanie Martinez (Cheltenham, Pa.); and goalie Kayla Reno (Pasadena, Md.) – with a pregame ceremony on Senior Day, Chestnut Hill College (4-8-2, 2-7-2) went to work trying to send its graduating class off in style. Nyack College (2-13-2, 2-8-1) had other plans, however, keeping the Griffins off the scoreboard despite a 17-12 deficiency in shots.

Frustrated by 12 offside calls against them, the Griffins nevertheless had a golden chance to strike first. But Fedora's one-timer was cleared off the line by a Warrior defender at 32:56, denying Chestnut Hill College a go-ahead marker.

The home side continued to put pressure on the Nyack net, but sophomore Jordan Jansen (Lafayette, N.J.) was equal to the task every time. She made six saves in the second half, keeping the Warriors alive long enough for Vega to score the dagger. All alone at the top of the box after a deflection landed right at her feet, Vega slotted home into a wide-open net to snatch the contest's lone goal with just 4:13 to play. The Griffins earned a pair of corner kicks in the waning moments, but neither led to a shot.

Jansen made all six of her saves after halftime for Nyack College, which was led offensively by four shots from sophomore forward Rebekah Lawler (Lacey, N.J.).

Sophomore forward Morgan Ruth (Blackwood, N.J.) recorded a game-high five shots for the Griffins; Fedora, Keimig, Weidner, and freshman midfielder Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) each logged two. Reno finished with five saves in the hard-luck loss (4-8-2).

The Griffins are back at Victory Field #1 on Wednesday, October 28, for a 4:00 p.m. nonconference date with Bloomsburg University.
