Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (2/14/2015) – Chestnut Hill College looked to have found a winning path this afternoon, taking a 28-20 lead with 18:48 remaining in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) clash with visiting Post University. Unfortunately, the Eagles caught fire from there, shooting 64.3% (18-of-28) and outscoring the Griffins, 53-34, after halftime to collect a 73-60 Valentine's Day triumph.
Chestnut Hill College (4-19, 3-13) felt the love from the Sorgenti Arena crowd after a dunk by senior center
Filip Sekulic (Danilovgrad, Montenegro) and ensuing 3-pointer by sophomore guard
Billy Cassidy (Primos, Pa.) opened up a 24-14 advantage with 4:37 to play in the first half. With a steady snow falling outside, Post University (11-12, 10-7) warmed up with lights-out shooting that began with a 9-0 run that gave the Eagles the lead for good at 39-36 with 11:19 to play.
The Post University lead vacillated between three and eight points for much of the second half. Chestnut Hill College mounted a final charge at the 4:23 mark, when a corner triple from freshman forward
Edward McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) brought the Griffins within 55-52. The Eagles countered with six straight points, however, and put the game away when freshman guard Jah'sheme Ringgold (Easton, Md.) converted an old-fashioned three-point play, 64-54, with just 1:43 remaining.
Freshman forward Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) led five Eagles in double figures with 17 points, including an impressive put-back dunk midway through the second half. Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) chipped in 10 markers. Cassidy (three steals) scored nine points on a trio of triples for the Griffins, who shot 11-of-30 (36.7%) from the floor in both halves.
