Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (2/14/2015) – Looking to build on its first-ever victory against Philadelphia University, the Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team welcomed Post University to Sorgenti Arena for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tilt this afternoon. Despite trailing 50-44 with 11:46 to play, the visiting Eagles slowly forged ahead and managed to hold off the Griffins for a 73-68 verdict, snapping an eight-game skid and denying the hosts a third consecutive victory. Senior forward
Tiffany Turner (Marlton, N.J.), 14 points and 14 rebounds, and freshman forward
Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.), 16 points and 13 rebounds, each collected double-doubles in defeat.
Chestnut Hill College (8-15, 6-10) never trailed in the first half and led by double digits on three occasions, the last on two free throws by Turner that made it 25-15 at the 4:30 mark. However, Post University (6-20, 6-11) kept the Griffins in shouting distance, ultimately closing to within 29-28 at halftime.
The Griffins tried to regain control right out of the locker room, scoring the first seven points of the second half and going ahead 36-28 on a layup by freshman forward
Brianne Morgera (Newport, R.I.) with 18:17 remaining. The Eagles again stayed within range, eventually taking the lead for the first time (50-49) with 11:21 to play. That set off a seesaw battle featuring five lead changes, the last a three-point play by Post University sophomore forward Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.) to put the visitors on top, 58-57, with 7:58 left. That jumpstarted a 12-3 spurt that culminated in a 67-60 Eagles advantage at the 3:26 mark, leaving the Griffins too much ground to make up. Chestnut Hill College got as close as 71-68 on a pair of Parriski foul shots with 10 ticks showing on the clock, but junior guard Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) capped a dominating second-half performance with two free throws that iced the game a second later.
Acklin was the primary catalyst behind the Post University resistance. She scored 20 of her game-high 29 points after intermission, finishing 11-of-23 (47.8%) from the floor and adding eight rebounds and team highs of five assists and five steals to her sparkling line. Freshman guard Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Sims just missed one of her own with 11 points and nine rebounds. The Eagles shot 51.5% (17-of-33) from the field in the second half.
Parriski was the only Griffin to have much luck shooting; the rookie went 7-for-8 (87.5%) from the field and made both of her free throws to notch a career high in scoring. The double-double was the second of the season for Parriski, who reached double figures in points for the third straight contest. Frontcourt mate Morgera was 5-for-9 (55.6%) from the floor en route to 10 points, but the rest of their teammates combined to shoot a paltry 15-of-65 (23.1%). Turner collected six offensive boards for her ninth double-double of the year, while senior guard
Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) added a career-high nine rebounds to a 10-point afternoon. Fellow senior guard
Shayla Felder (Cheltenham, Pa.) paired five assists with seven points.
The Griffins go for a program-best seventh CACC win on Tuesday, February 17, at Georgian Court University. Tip is set for 6:00 p.m.
