2/24/2015 9:54:00 PM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (2/24/2015) – From high-flying dunks to deadly three-point shooting, Holy Family University found plenty of ways to spoil Chestnut Hill College's season finale in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action this evening. The Tigers blew by the Griffins early, leading by as many as 24 (40-16) in an impressive first half that set the stage for an 89-70 triumph inside Sorgenti Arena.

Chestnut Hill College (6-20, 5-14) led briefly, 5-4, on a 3-pointer by sharp-shooting sophomore guard Billy Cassidy (Primos, Pa.) at the 17:15 mark of the opening frame. It was all downhill from there for the Griffins. Holy Family University (21-7, 15-4) drained triples on its next three possessions, with junior forward Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa.) following a trey by counterpart Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa.) with two of his own, 13-5 (15:16). That was part of a 13-0 run that gifted the Tigers a double-digit lead, 17-5, within the first seven minutes of game time (13:20).

Cassidy buried another 3-pointer to close the gap to 19-10 (12:48), but Holy Family University went on another tear. First came a run of eight straight points, capped by a highlight-reel leaping jam from Gans, that put the Tigers on top 27-10 at the 9:27 mark. After Griffin junior guard Luke Dickson (Pitman, N.J.) briefly stopped the bleeding, Tiger junior guard Eric Fleming (Philadelphia, Pa.) made 3-pointers on three straight possessions to open up a 36-14 bulge (6:30). The spread increased to 24 (40-16) on a layup by Gans, but the Griffins closed the half on a 13-2 run over the final 4:48 to go into break down by a manageable 13-point discrepancy, 42-29.

Dickson connected from long range on the first possession of the second half, 42-32 (19:25), but Chestnut Hill College never got any closer than that. Gans put an exclamation point on a 7-0 run with an alley-oop from junior guard Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J.), one of his three dunks on the night, and Holy Family University was back in business with a 49-32 lead (17:11). The Tigers twice more led by as many as 24 before settling for a 19-point verdict, 89-70.

Gans wowed the Sorgenti Arena crowd with his athleticism, as the junior went off for a game-high 22 points, including a trio of dunks, 3-pointers, and acrobatic blocks. Fleming, meanwhile, was nearly automatic from distance, going 6-of-8 (75%) from beyond the arc in an 18-point performance. The Tigers made 14 3-pointers (14-of-34, 41.2%) on the night.

Junior point guard Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa.) conducted the Holy Family University train with 10 points and nine assists to just two turnovers. Stewart crashed the glass for eight points and nine rebounds, and Crawford chipped in eight points, six assists, four rebounds, and four blocks. The Tigers earned the No. 3 seed in the CACC South and will host Caldwell University, the No. 2 seed from the North Division, in the CACC quarterfinals on Saturday.

Cassidy led the way for Chestnut Hill College with 16 points and a season-high-tying six rebounds. The sophomore was 4-of-11 (36.4%) from downtown to finish the 2014-2015 campaign with a school-record 80 3-pointers. Dickson reached double figures for the first time in five games with 15 points, adding four rebounds and three assists for a solid floor game. Senior centers Seamus Radtke (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Filip Sekulic (Danilovgrad, Montenegro) played their final collegiate games, providing nine and three points, respectively, to the Griffin cause.

Freshman forward Edward McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) capped an excellent rookie season with 10 rebounds (his third game with at least 10 boards), and fellow freshman Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) started at point guard and accrued six points, four steals, three rebounds, and two assists. Junior guard Christian Walck (Lancaster, Pa.) offered eight points and three assists, freshman forward Christopher Evans (Norristown, Pa.) knocked down a triple, and senior guard Joseph Sipocz (Sykesville, Md.) had a rebound and an assist in his last collegiate contest.
