Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (2/7/2015) – Senior forward Filip Sekulic (Danilovgrad, Montenegro) was on the end of several early drives by freshman guard Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.), but Chestnut Hill College fell victim to 15 first half turnovers in a runaway 81-73 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss at Nyack College. Senior guard Christian Walck (Lancaster, Pa.) continued to serve as a sparkplug off the Griffin bench, leading all scorers with 26 points on an efficient night from the floor, 7-of-9 (77.8%), and a busy night at the free throw line (11-of-17, 64.7%).

Isaac pushed the tempo off the opening tip and forged Chestnut Hill College (4-17, 3-11) an early 8-0 advantage in the first 2:24 of competition. With the help of Sekulic, the Griffins retained a lead for next five minutes. However, the veteran floor presence of the Nayck College (7-15, 6-9) seniors was too much for the Griffins to handle; first guard Khalid Samuels (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) and forward Nick Moore (Sicklerville, N.J.), who propelled the Warriors ahead with 8:32 remaining, 18-16, and later in Chris Hampton (Queens, N.Y.), who inspired the Warriors to a 36-23 halftime advantage.

Not long after intermission, the Warriors lead reached its largest margin, 41-25 (17:25), on a Samuels three-pointer. Their lead would withstand three Griffin charges, the first cutting the deficit to eight points, 52-44, with 11:46 remaining in the contest, the second narrowing the gap to six points, 69-63, just past the two-minute mark (1:42), and the last keeping the final spread in single digits, 81-73.

Four Warriors finished in double figures. Samuels and Hampton were two of them and they were efficient from long range, hitting half the long range shots they took (7-of-14, 50.0%). Samuels recorded more points (22), but Hampton offered a slightly better stat line 21 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Moore and sophomore forward Will Robinson (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) each totaled a dozen points. Robinson grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

All 26 of Walck's points came in the second half. The Griffins senior guard struggled through the first half (three fouls and four turnovers), before taking up the flag in a series of desperate second-half rallies. Sophomore guard Billy Cassidy (Primos, Pa.) offered 12 points while junior forward Noel Hightower (Easton, Pa.) and senior center Seamus Radtke (Philadelphia, Pa.) provided the Griffins muscle. Hightower finished with eight points, seven rebounds, one assists, two blocks, and a steal, while Radtke registered eight points, five rebounds, four blocks, and a steal.

The men's basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Tuesday, February 10, when they host Philadelphia University in an 8:00 p.m. CACC contest.
