Warriors Wound Griffin Mojo in 17-3 Final

3/12/2015 4:48:00 PM

Box Score East Stroudsburg, Pa. - (3/12/2015) – Just two days removed from a dramatic 11-10 victory over Queens College, the Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse team continued a busy schedule with an afternoon trip to East Stroudsburg University. Unfortunately, today's contest got away from the Griffins as the Warriors scored the game's first nine goals en route to a 17-3 win.

A connection between freshmen midfielders Erica McLaughlin (Magnolia, N.J.) and Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) brought East Stroudsburg University's (2-0) first-half run to an end with just 28 seconds (0:28) remaining in the period, 9-1. But the tally was not enough to sway the Warriors first-half momentum as the home team proceeded to record the first four goals for the second half to own a 13-1 lead with 22:11 left to play in the game. Chestnut Hill College (1-1) interrupted the second streak about four minutes later (18:35) when freshman attack Gillian Wixted (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored her first collegiate goal off the feed from sophomore midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.), 13-2, but the Warriors outscored them 4-1 in the final 16 minutes to facilitate the deciding 14-goal deficit, 17-3.

Six Warriors recorded multiple points, including junior attack Lauren Nunes (Phillipsburg, N.J.) who led their effort with six points (three goals and three assists) and junior attack Kaitlynn Wiltraut (Bethlehem, Pa.) who finished as their leading scorer with four tallies. She also recorded an assist and a ground ball while Nunes added a draw control and caused turnover to her performance. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Maxwell (Oceanside, N.Y.) made seven saves in the win (2-0).

Senior midfielder Mary Markowski (Parkton, Md.) was responsible for the third Griffin goal, scoring on a free position attempt with 8:48 to play. Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) totaled nine saves and four ground balls in the loss (1-1) while freshman defender Jaida Zabala (East Meadow, N.Y.) helped her as much as she could with three ground balls and three caused turnovers from the Griffin backfield.

The women's lacrosse team continues a hectic spring at home with a 4:00 p.m. contest against Kutztown University scheduled for Saturday, March 14.
