Griffins Ruin a Pair of No-Hit Bids In Games versus #21 Rams

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 West Chester, Pa. - (3/24/2015) – Play moved swiftly at #21 West Chester University as the Rams held Chestnut Hill College to one hit in each of today's contests. Junior designated player Laura Eidam (South Salem, N.Y.) broke up the no-hitter in the opener with a fifth-inning, one-out single while sophomore center fielder Ashleigh Sharp (Dresher, Pa.) was the Griffin hero in game two with a seventh-inning, two-out bunt single. Unfortunately, the Ram bats were more effective, earning the home team respective wins of 4-0 and 3-0.

A sacrifice fly in the second inning, a lead-off home run in the third inning, and a pair of fifth-inning extra base hits accounted for West Chester University's (16-6) runs. Chestnut Hill College (2-8) was not as fortunate as they struggled to connect on junior pitcher Katie Erb (Douglassville, Pa.). In the fifth inning, Eidam followed a ground-out to second base with a single through the left side of the Ram defense, but she was left stranded on consecutive swinging strikeouts. A third-inning walk to Sharp was the only other blemish on Erb's performance as she struck out six in the win (4-0).

In the second game, the Ram no-hit bid lasted until the Griffins final out, when Sharp spoiled the effort of freshman Ashley Flesch (Burke, Va.) with a bunt single. The Griffins put runners in scoring position in the first and fourth innings thanks to a Ram error and a pair of walks, but Flesch was able to deny the opportunities with the help of her defense and ten strikeouts.

The softball team hopes to play at home for the first time this season tomorrow, Wednesday, March 25, when they host Georgian Court University for their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener.
