Box Score 2 Norristown, Pa. - (3/25/2015) – Continuing a never-ending battle with the winter-spring weather, Chestnut Hill College managed to get 12 innings of baseball in today against The Lincoln University. Freshman pitcher
Andrew Sibson (Galloway, N.J.) went the distance in the opener, striking out seven while spreading five hits and a walk over seven innings of a 6-0 victory. Game two was nearly perfect for junior pitcher
Casey Kern (Stony Point, N.Y.) who only allowed a second-inning single through the left side in a 3-0, five-inning triumph.
Chestnut Hill College (10-5) gave Kern the only run he would need against The Lincoln University (1-12) in the first inning. A lead-off walk to junior left fielder
Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.), a Lion error, a wild pitch, and a single to right center field from senior right fielder
Michael McLaughlin (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored that first run, 1-0. They added two more runs for insurance in the fifth inning thanks to a lead-off single from senior catcher
Allen Umbenhauer (Whitehall, Pa.), a bunt single down the first baseline from first baseman
Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.), a double steal of second and third, and a two-run single through the left side from freshman right field
Patrick Kelley (Pipersville, Pa.), 3-0. McLaughlin went 2-for-2 while Kern dazzled the Lions with five strikeouts in his first win (1-0) of the season.
Freshman right fielder
Joseph Monaghan (Doylestown, Pa.) was the trigger man for the Griffin offense in game one. In support of Sibson, Monaghan followed his fruitless first-inning double with a lead-off triple in the fourth inning. Over the course of a pair of outs he scored on a passed ball to put the Griffins first run of the afternoon on the scoreboard, 1-0. Then, a two-out single deep in the hole from senior shortstop
Preston Koehler (Bath, Pa.) kept the inning alive for a sinking liner to left field from senior third baseman
Taylor Steen (New Egypt, N.J.) to bring a second run in for Chestnut Hill College, 2-0. Completing his 4-for-4 effort, Monaghan connected for two more singles as he knocked in the second of two Griffin runs in the fifth inning, 4-0, and both of the Griffins runs in the sixth inning, 6-0.
The baseball team returns to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Saturday, March 28, when they travel to Caldwell University for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
