Queens, N.Y. – (3/27/2015) – The start of a busy stretch for the Chestnut Hill College tennis teams, the Griffin men's and women's team visited Queens College for a day of dual competition. In a match of nationally ranked opponents, #33 Queens College got the better of the #34 Chestnut Hill College women's team in a 7-2 final. Meanwhile, the Griffin men were victorious, 5-4, bringing Head Coach
Albert Stroble to within two wins of the century mark.
Queens College (12-2) took a 2-1 advantage into singles play of the women's match. The hosting Knights won the bottom two team flights from Chestnut Hill College (10-7), 8-2 and 8-3 respectively, with sophomore
Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France) and senior
Charlotte Dawson (Odessa, Texas) breaking up the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win in the top flight. Unfortunately, freshman
Lara Scholtze (Bod Homburg, Germany) was the only Griffin to win in singles play, allowing the Knights to seize a runaway 7-2 win. Scholtze won the third singles match with a 6-1, 6-2 triumphant effort.
Meanwhile, in the men's match Chestnut Hill College (6-5) took the upper hand into individual play after seniors,
Steven Say (Cannes, France) and
Michael Humes (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) gutted out a 9-8 (5) victory at number two doubles. Freshman
Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) and junior
Henry Boyle (London, England) won the other point with their 8-6 win in the third team flight. Say, Ducretot, and Humes won the key singles matches to secure another Stroble victory; Say won number three singles (6-1, 6-1), Ducretot the fifth individual flight (6-4, 7-5) and Humes at number six (7-5, 6-3).
The men's and women's tennis teams travel together again on Sunday, March 29, when they visit the University of the District of Columbia for a 12:00 p.m. dual match.
