Elkins Park, Pa. – (3/7/2015) – With the recent winter weather forcing play indoors, Chestnut Hill College hosted #42 Indiana University (PA) today at Fossler's Cheltenham Tennis Center in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. The Crimson Hawks grabbed the early advantage in the battle of nationally ranked powers with a 3-0 sweep of doubles play and continued onto a 6-3 regional win over the Griffins with singles wins at number three, five, and six singles.
Chestnut Hill College (10-6) found it tough to rally from a commanding 3-0 doubles deficit as Indiana University (3-0) posted victories in all three team matches; 8-1 at number three doubles, 8-4 at number two doubles, and 8-2 at number one doubles. The Crimson Hawks strengthened their hold and put the contest out of the Griffins reach with individual wins at number six (6-2, 6-1), number five (6-1, 6-4), and number three singles (6-3, 6-2). Only sophomore
Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France), senior
Charlotte Dawson (Odessa, Texas), and junior
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) were able to secure points for the Griffins as Josso took down the Crimson Hawks top player with her 6-3, 6-3 triumph at number one singles, Dawson wrestled for a 7-6, 1-6, 10-7, win at number two singles, and Williams-Mulesa earned a 6-1, 6-3 fourth-flight win. Unfortunately, the Griffins successes came too little too late, leaving the Crimson Hawks to the valuable victory.
The women's tennis teams returns to the courts on Monday, March 9, when they visit Saint Joseph's University for a 3:00 p.m. match.
