4/11/2015 6:30:00 PM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/11/2015) – Despite holding its own with an early 2-1 lead off the stick of sophomore midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.), the Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse team fell victim to the Holy Family University buzz saw this afternoon. The host Tigers poured in the contest's next seven goals and never looked back to remain undefeated in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a 17-8 final. O'Leary led the Griffins with four goals for her fifth hat-trick of the season.

Chestnut Hill College (5-8, 2-3) retaliated to Holy Family University's opening salvo, 1-0 (28:33), with back-to-back scores, freshman midfielder Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) forging an early 1-1 tie (27:33) before O'Leary handed the visitors a short-lived lead by depositing a feed from freshman midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.), 2-1 (24:56). Their cage rattled, the Tigers roared back with a 7-0 run to enter intermission with an 8-2 bulge. Holy Family University (10-3, 6-0) saw its momentum reach a crescendo on a last-second marker by junior midfielder Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J.), 8-2 (0:02).

The Griffins made the necessary adjustments in the early portion of the second half, with O'Leary scoring twice in a span of 1:02 to cut the home side's margin to 8-4 after a free-position goal at 27:55. But senior attack Christina Bonomo (Ephrata, Pa.) took control from there, collecting an unassisted tally to restore a five-goal lead, 9-4, just 17 seconds later (27:38). Chestnut Hill College never got closer than five the rest of the way.

Bonomo turned in a remarkable nine-point afternoon on the strength of six goals and three assists to keep Holy Family University in command, and she received all the back-up she needed from junior midfielder Nicole Braungart (Medford, N.J.), four goals, and classmate Erin Harmer (Philadelphia, Pa.), two goals and two assists. Settar and senior midfielder Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J.) each tallied three points, and junior goalkeeper Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md.) registered five saves between the pipes.

In addition to O'Leary, who converted all four of her shot attempts, Leckonby and senior attack Mary Markowski (Parkton, Md.) provided matching one-goal, one-assist performances. Sophomore midfielder Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) was all over the field, offering a goal of her own in addition to five ground balls, three draws, and a pair of caused turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) stood up to a barrage of Tiger shots (46) to garner a career-high-tying 17 saves.

The Griffins now brace for the stretch run and a three-game home stand to close the regular season. The first contest is a date with Dominican College, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Victory Field on Tuesday, April 14.
