Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/2/2015) – Topping the Tigers for the first time since the final week of the 2011 season, Chestnut Hill College split today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contests with Holy Family University behind the brilliant pitching of senior Courtney Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y.), who used her defense to defeat the visitors in a 1-0, two-hit final. Unfortunately, the Tigers roared back in the nightcap, erupting for six seventh-inning runs for an 8-1 win. Junior first baseman Allie Williams (Warrenton, Va.) recorded half of the Griffin hits on the afternoon, going 3-for-5 with a run scored in the twin bill.
 
Following Dayter's masterpiece, Chestnut Hill College (4-14, 2-8) aimed for the CACC sweep as they cut Holy Family University's (6-4, 6-4) third-inning, 2-0 lead in half on a run-scoring triple to left center field from sophomore center fielder Ashleigh Sharp (Dresher, Pa.), 2-1. Sophomore pitcher Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif.) (1-6) held the Tigers quiet for three more at-bats, but in the seventh the visitors got to relief pitcher Kaitlyn Johnson (New Boston, N.H.) quickly as they separated for an 8-1 game-two win with six runs on five hits, a lead-off walk, and an error.
 
Game one moved swiftly with each side retiring its rival with ease. Each side only mustered one hit in their first four at-bats, but it was the Griffins who broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning. After a lead-off walk to Williams, a one-out walk to junior second baseman Julie Heaton (Berlin, N.J.), and a Sharp single through the left side loaded the bases for freshman shortstop Koraima Dudley (Levittown, Pa.). A five pitch walk to Dudley scored the only run Dayter would need as the Griffin ace walked one and struck out two to collect her second straight win (2-5), 1-0.
 
The softball team awaits their next CACC challenge; a 1:00 p.m. first pitch is scheduled for Saturday, April 4, versus Felician College.
