Box Score 2 Briarcliff, N.Y. - (4/26/2015) – For the Chestnut Hill College softball team the 2015 season came to a close with today's doubleheader at Pace University. The Setters ended each game in six innings, coming on late in both for respective 9-0 and 8-1 wins. The Griffins five hits were split among five players with a second-inning single to left from junior designated player
Allie Williams (Warrenton, Va.) plating the only run of the afternoon.
In game one the chances were few and far between for Chestnut Hill College (9-29), who squandered a two-out double to left from junior catcher
Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) in the first inning and a one-out single to centerfield from freshman shortstop
Koraima Dudley (Levittown, Pa.) in the third inning. Junior pitcher Caitlin McCann (San Mateo, Calif.) (10-4) was untouchable otherwise as she struck out four and tossed one wild pitch in her six innings of work for Pace University (24-14).
After lead-off walk from Kehr, a sacrifice, Williams' single to left field gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead at the start of game two, 1-0. But the Setters matched that tally in the bottom of the first inning, 1-1, and added two more in the second inning, 3-1, another in the third, 4-1, and four in the sixth, 8-1, to give the Griffins their final at-bat in the seventh. Chestnut Hill College put two aboard in the frame with a lead-off single from junior left fielder
Nicole Carney (Ontario, Calif.) and a two-out walk to senior right fielder
Courtney Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y.). Unfortunately, both were left stranded as McCann relieved sophomore starter Kaitlyn Nelson (Ojai, Calif.) for the final out of the twin bill. Nelson earned the win (8-6), allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out eight.
Chestnut Hill College finishes their 2015 season, their first under Head Coach Mike Gospodarek, at 9-23 overall and 7-19 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
