Box Score 2 Lincoln, Pa. - (4/8/2015) – The Chestnut Hill College bats stayed hot in today's doubleheader sweep at The Lincoln University. Junior first baseman
Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.) led the charge in the opener with three hits (3-for-4), two runs, and two runs-batted-in (RBI), in an 8-4 victory. While in the second game, four Griffins recorded two hits to facilitate an 11-5 triumph; the Griffins' fourth over the Lions this season.
Chestnut Hill College (16-7) got to work early, plating four runs in their opening at-bat. A lead-off single from freshman second baseman
Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) and a hustled bunt single from Campion set the stage. After a walk to junior left fielder
Joseph Monaghan (Doylestown, Pa.) the bases were loaded for a one-out double from senior shortstop
Preston Koehler (Bath, Pa.) that scored two runs, 2-0. Two more runs scored on a passed ball and a single to left from sophomore center fielder
Brandon DiBona (Southampton, Pa.) that gave the Griffins a 4-0 lead over the Lions. The Lion rebuttal did not come until the fourth, which was too little (4-1) and the seventh, which was too late in an 8-4 final. The Griffins four other runs came in the top of the seventh when lead-off singles from DiBona and freshman right fielder
Patrick Kelley (Pipersville, Pa.) set the table for another big inning. Craig and Campion cashed in with RBI's and a Lion error allowed another before all was said and done.
The Griffins scored seven runs before the Lions could get to junior pitcher
Robert Andris (Oreland, Pa.). Three came across in the first inning with an error, a stolen base, and a Campion double to left bringing in the first of the frame, 3-0. Three more scored in the second with freshman center fielder
Dalton Cozart (Commerce Twp, Mich.) working his way around the bases on a lead-off walk, a pair of stolen bases, and a Craig sacrifice fly to centerfield, 4-0, before two more scored on doubles from senior left fielder
Michael McLaughlin (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Monaghan, 6-0. Kelley singled a run home in the third inning, 7-0, before the Lions finally answered with a four-run fourth inning, 7-4. Each side scored a run in the fifth inning to make it 8-5, but three more runs in the sixth inning added plenty of insurance for the Griffin bullpen in an 11-5 victory for Andris (1-0).
The baseball team returns to CACC play tomorrow, April 9, with two games at Felician College. The opener is schedule for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
