4/8/2015 9:31:00 PM

Box Score Lakewood, N.J. - (4/8/2015) – A first half of scoring streaks gave way to a Chestnut Hill College second half, but with the score tied at the end of regulation, 10-10, overtime was all Lions in a 15-10 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win for Georgian Court University. Freshman midfielder Erica McLaughlin (Magnolia, N.J.) delivered the game-tying goal and helped freshman attack Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) keep the Griffins on pace with her second straight three-goal game.

Junior midfielder Callie Brown (Toms River, N.J.) began the initial Georgian Court University (7-5, 3-2) run that gave Chestnut Hill College (5-6, 2-2) an uphill battle as the Griffins faced a 5-0 deficit with 13:27 remaining in the first half. At 12:31 the Griffins began to make ground thanks to a goal from sophomore midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.), 5-1. Tallies from sophomore midfielder Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and Leckonby followed at 9:38 (5-2) and 0:13 (5-3), respectively, bringing the Griffins within two at intermission.

The second half opened with a Lion score, 6-3 (28:46), but the roar was answered with a trio of Griffin goals around the 17-minute mark. Leckonby unassisted, 6-4 (17:38), McLaughlin on a free position, 6-5 (17:04), and Leckonby unassisted again, 6-6 (16:49) evened the spread, but not for long as the contest teeter-tottered until McLaughlin's score at 2:22 kept all thing even at the end of regulation.

Unfortunately, the extra frame was all Lions as the home team netted five overtime tallies without a Griffin retort. Brown scored one of the overtime goals; she finished with six in all and added two assists to lead the Lions with eight points. Junior attack Silvetta Agosto (Ewing, N.J.) (two goals and two assists) and junior attack Melissa Williams (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) (four goals) each offered four points with several others chiming in. In relief, junior goalkeeper Stephanie Lehner (Howell, N.J.) earned with win with six saves in the second half and overtime periods.

Leckonby led the Griffin effort with four goals, three ground balls, two draws, and two caused turnovers. McLaughlin added two ground balls and three draws to her hat trick while O'Leary finished with two goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) made eight saves in the loss (5-6).

The women's lacrosse team breaks from CACC play to visit the University of Bridgeport for a 3:00 p.m. contest on Thursday, April 9.
