Box Score Bronxville, N.Y. - (9/12/2015) – Concordia College (NY) owned a 19-12 shot advantage in regulation, which saw both Chestnut Hill College and the Clippers scoring in the final five minutes of regulation. The home side scored first at 85:48, but just a 1:15 later when senior midfielder
Matthew Casaletto
(Sewell, N.J.) drilled a 30-yard strike that soared over the Clippers' goalkeeper to tie the contest for good in a 1-1 double overtime tie; he was one of four Griffins with three shots apiece, efficiently making use of a 25-14 shot deficit.
The Clippers sailed several shots high and wide of the Chestnut Hill College (1-2-1, 0-1-1) goal where junior goalkeeper
James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) (1-2-1) made eight saves over 120:00 minutes. He was aided by the combined defensive effort of juniors
Nils Fussen
(Aachen, Germany),
Sam Sheppard
(Dagenham, England), and
Matthew McLeod
(Sewell, N.J.), who nearly rendered Concordia College's (NY) (1-0-1, 0-0-1) 25 shots and 14 corner kicks futile. They broke through at 85:48, when senior midfielder Mauricio Chaparro (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) completed a centering pass from senior defenseman Rasheem Eccleston (Montego Bay, Jamaica), 1-0. The advantage was short lived as Casaletto recorded his first Griffin goal at 87:03, knotting the affair heading to the final two minutes of regulation. The game remained tied for those two minutes and twenty more as Jackson made two saves on six Clipper shots and earned the Griffins a tie in their first league challenge of the season.
Nine Clippers took part in their 25-shot effort. Junior forward David McKenzie (Westmoreland, Jamaica) led the crew with five attempts, while Chaparro and senior midfielder Jesus Alvarez-Riesco (La Coruna, Spain) each took four shots. Senior goalkeeper Ruel Gordon (Savanna La Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica) totaled five saves in the loss (1-0-1).
Casaletto shared the Griffins spot light with senior midfielder
Nicholas Jaffe
(Sao Paulo, Brazil), senior forward
Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Colombia), and junior forward
Emmanuel Egbosimbah
(Philadelphia, Pa.), who all took three shots. Freshmen forwards
Jason Burns
(Douglassville, Pa.) and
Jason Doherty
(Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland) took the other two.
The men's soccer team resumes their CACC schedule on Wednesday, September 16, when they visit Goldey-Beacom College for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
