Box Score Bronxville, N.Y. - (9/12/2015) – For the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season opened with a highly-competitive contest at Concordia College (NY). Freshman midfielder Maddi Paulson (Kalispell, Mont.) gave the Clippers a 2-1 advantage early in the second half, but the Griffins tied the contest in the 85th (84:50) minute, forcing overtime, where freshman midfielder
Brianna Ferrell (Newtown Square, Pa.) scored the game-winner on a cross from senior defender
Courtney Weidner (Philadelphia, Pa.) in the final minute of the overtime, 3-2 (99:15).
Ferrell, who has been the playmaker for Chestnut Hill College (3-1) so far, took a turn at scoring with her first collegiate goal bringing the Griffins their third win of the season. It was an uphill battle for the Griffins, who played from behind Concordia College (NY) (0-2, 0-1) after Paulson's first tally came on a long pass from sophomore defender Catherine Gray (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) only seven minutes (6:54) into the affair, 1-0. Senior midfielder
Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) issued the Griffins' response in the latter half of the frame, dribbling down the right sideline and powering a shot to the top of the Clipper goal at 33:45, 1-1.
After halftime the Clippers again took the upper hand, this time with Paulson scoring off a throw in from junior defender Samantha Somers (Hooksett, N.H.) at 66:21, 2-1. Again the Griffins gradually gained momentum, tying the game on goal from sophomore forward
Anna Abbot (Sicklerville, N.J.) with 5:10 remaining in the regulation, 2-2. Overtime was a midfield mêlée with each side only mustering a shot; the Clippers' came first, but the Griffins' found the back of the net as Ferrell one-timed the Weidner pass to the bottom left corner of the goal, 3-2.
Paulson scored on her only two shots, benefitting from the hard work of freshman forward Dayna Darcy (Plainedge, N.Y.), who took six shots but came away scoreless in the effort. Senior goalkeeper Samantha Street (Granite Falls, Wash.) made six saves in the loss (0-2).
Ferrell's five shots led a balanced attack that included six Griffins combining for 14 shots. Following Spinuzza's unassisted tally, sophomore forward
Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) found Abbot for the game-tying goal. Ferrell's heroic score came just 45 seconds left in first overtime, helping the Griffins match their 2014 win total only four games into the season. Senior goalkeeper
Kayla Reno (Cantonsville, Md.) got the start, but sophomore goalkeeper
Meghan Guagenti (Pennsauken, N.J.) earned the win (1-0) without a save over the final 54:38.
The women's soccer team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, September 15, when they visit Goldey-Beacom College for as 3:00 p.m. contest.
