Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/29/2015) – The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team saw a bad bounce go against it with Wilmington University in town this afternoon for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) clash. A bounding ball glanced off a Griffin in the box late in the second half, allowing the Wildcats to steal a 1-0 victory with a 79
th-minute penalty kick (78:20).
Chestnut Hill College (3-6, 1-5) was shut out for the fourth straight game, but the home side was up to the task of keeping the opposition from denting the scoreboard for the lion's share of the contest. Behind senior goalkeeper
Kayla Reno (Pasadena, Md.), who matched a career high with 11 saves, the Griffin defense kept Wilmington University (4-3, 4-1) from mounting a serious threat until well into the second half. Reno's leaping stab steered wide a probing free kick destined for the upper right corner by freshman midfielder Alexis Perry (Pemberton, N.J.) with 2:54 to play in the opening frame.
Both teams made forays into the other's defensive zone as the second half wound down to its inauspicious conclusion, but nothing came of them until 11:40 showed on the clock. A service into the box grazed the hand of a Chestnut Hill College defender and the referee whistled for a hand ball, awarding the Wildcats a penalty kick. Sophomore midfielder Loran Wyrough (Hamilton, N.J.) stepped up to the spot and deftly slotted home into the lower left corner, granting the visitors a lead. Despite a concerted effort to push upfield, the Griffins managed only one shot from that point, a long-range effort that was blocked as the final horn sounded.
Freshman midfielder Rebecca Dolhansky (Blackwood, N.J.) was a catalyst for Wilmington University, finishing with a game-high six shots on her ledger. The Wildcats outshot the Griffins by a 19-9 count. Sophomore goaltender Kierstyn Williams (Middletown, Del.) made four saves to earn the victory (4-3, 4-1), the most difficult coming at the 34:23 mark, when Griffin senior forward
Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) made a run into the box and centered a ball for sophomore forward
Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.). The striker's sliding effort was right at Williams, however, allowing the Wildcats to escape the threat unscathed.
Jazikoff, senior midfielder
Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.), and freshman midfielder
Molly Sullivan (Pasco, Wash.) offered two shots apiece for the Griffins. Reno's superb effort between the pipes nevertheless resulted in a fifth consecutive defeat (3-6).
Chestnut Hill College stays home for a CACC date with Dominican College (NY), an early wake-up call scheduled for Saturday, October 3, at 10:00 a.m.
