Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/1/2016) – The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team registered 15 shots on the afternoon, but the Concordia College (NY) Clippers offense proved to be too much as the visitors emerged with a 2-0 victory in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play at Victory Field #1 on Saturday morning.
Chestnut Hill College (1-8, 0-6 CACC) and Concordia College (NY) (2-6, 1-5 CACC) traded possession of the ball early, with neither team able to establish much sustained pressure. The Griffins nearly notched a goal in the 30
th minute (29:36), but a shot from junior midfielder
Kiersten Cobb-Wilkins (Lowman, N.Y.) sailed just over the crossbar. The Clippers offense generated the best opportunity of the half when a shot from junior defender Catherine Gray (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) hit the crossbar following a save by Chestnut Hill College junior goalkeeper
Meghan Guagenti (Pennasauken, N.J.). A late corner for the Griffins proved fruitless, as time expired before a shot could be recorded.
The second half saw the Clippers open strong and never look back, as they controlled the momentum for the majority of the half. The visitors were able to open the scoring in the 59
th minute (58:50), when sophomore midfielder Maddi Paulson (Kalispell, Mont.) ripped a free-position shot from 38-yards out to give the visitors the 1-0 edge.
Concordia College (NY) would add an insurance goal in the 70
th minute (69:19) on a fast-break goal by freshman midfielder Miranda Merino (Victorville, Calif.). The Clippers got the attack started when sophomore forward Dayna Darcy (Plainedge, N.Y.) won a contested ball at midfield and chipped it 30 yards to the streaking Merino, who was able to beat the defense and tap the ball into the back of the net. The Clippers defense held firm the remainder of the game, not allowing the Griffins to generate a sustained attack, emerging with a hard-fought 2-0 victory.
Guagenti and freshman
Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) (0-2) combined for six saves in the defeat. Junior forward
Morgan Ruth (Blackwood, N.J.) led the Griffins with four shots on the day. The Griffins held a commanding 12-3 edge in corner kicks on the day.
Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Wilczynski (Shrewsbury, Mass.) (2-6) stopped four saves in the shutout victory. Paulson and Merino led the offensive attack with a goal apiece, with Darcy chipping in the lone assist for the squad.
The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer season continues CACC play when they host Holy Family University on October 4, at 7:00 p.m.
