Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (11/30/2016) – Tonight's contest at Holy Family University marked a return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) for Chestnut Hill College, who received a career-night from junior center
Chris Evans (Norristown, Pa.), but fell short of the Tigers in an 83-82 overtime final. Sophomore guard
Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.) scored his own put back to force the extra frame, where he gave the Griffins a late lead before a last-second layup pushed the decision in the home team's favor.
Chestnut Hill College (3-4, 1-1) led for a majority of the opening half, only to send the contest to overtime, 78-78, on Awl's layup with 14 seconds (0:14) remaining in regulation. In the additional five minutes, sophomore forward
Tony Toplyn Jr. (Sicklerville, N.J.) first gave the Griffins a 80-78 advantage before a missed shot and a turnover left Holy Family University (3-5, 2-0) ahead 81-80 win 2:58 remaining. On the ensuing Scarlet and Gold possession another turnover put the Tigers in position to extend their lead, only they missed their opportunity and forced another possession change, before sophomore forward
Jalil Myers (Philadelphia, Pa.) secured the ball for Chestnut Hill College. Again, Awl was clutch; this time giving the Griffins an 82-81 lead with 21 seconds (0:21) to go. A Tiger turnover appeared to seal the deal, but the Griffins returned the favor, allowing freshman guard Randy Bell (Sicklerville, N.J.) to deposit the game-winner, 83-82, with only one second (0:01) remaining on the scoreboard.
Chestnut Hill College owned a 58-38 rebounding advantage, but coughed the ball up 24 times to keep Holy Family University in the game. The Griffins also owned the edge in shooting, holding a 47.8% (33-of-69) to 32.9% (25-of-76) upper hand on the home team. Still, that nose-up was erased by more frequent trips to the free throw line (24-of-36, 66.7% - 14-of-19, 73.7%) and a superior performance from long range (9-of-37, 24.3% - 2-of-15, 13.3%).
Bell led Holy Family University with 24 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Three other Tigers finished in double figures, including junior guard Dyllon Hudson-Emory (Harrisburg, Pa.) who offered 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and four steals.
Evans hit 10-of-18 (.556) from the floor and 3-of-6 (.500) from the free throw line for a career-high 23 points. He also offered a career-high seven rebounds, an assist, and a block. Three Griffins joined him in double figures, first among them was sophomore forward
Bryant Quill (Pottstown, Pa.), who came off the Chestnut Hill College bench for 16 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Awl finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while sophomore guard
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the fourth double-digit scorer with 12 points in excess of three rebounds and five assists.
