Box Score Takoma Park, Md. - (12/3/2016) – Turnovers kept Chestnut Hill College in check during the first half of play at Washington Adventist University, where 17 second-half points from junior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) headlined the Griffins' rally to a 69-54 victory over the Lady Shock. In the latter half, the Scarlet and Gold was 17-of-33 (.515) from the floor, including eight three-point baskets (8-of-12, .667), that helped them secure a 49-43 third-quarter edge and an eventual 15-point triumph.

After outscoring Washington Adventist University (2-8) 14-11 in the first quarter, Chestnut Hill College (5-1) had trouble sustaining their edge with 15 first-half turnovers finally taking their effect by intermission. Despite 10 Griffins seeing the court in the first two quarters, only senior forward Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) (seven points), junior forward Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.) (six points), sophomore forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) (six points), and freshman guard Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.) (five points) appeared in the point column. Kuhnen led the group with seven points, taking a majority (3-of-9, .333) of the Griffins shots in a 10-of-25 (.400) first-half performance. Senior guard Emily Piazza (Newport News, Va.) led the Lady Shock's defensive front with three steals while the hustle of junior guard Celia Gallego-Berea (Leon, Spain) and playmaking of sophomore guard Candice Berner (Frederick, Md.) helped Washington Adventist University produce 19 second-quarter points in a 30-24 halftime spread.

Chestnut Hill College cut down on the turnovers in the second half, feeding of the careful point play of sophomore guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.). The Griffins' efficient and frenetic pace reversed favor in the opening two minutes of the third quarter as the Scarlet and Gold took the lead, 32-30, on a Trossi layup at 7:46. Four minutes later (3:42), the Chestnut Hill College advantage reached double-digits, 44-34, for the first time on a Tumasz three pointer. The Lady Shock cut the deficit to six, 49-43, by the end of the period. But they were not able to carry that torch into the fourth frame, where the Scarlet and Gold increased their lead to as many as 19 points, 68-49 (2:29), before the final horn sounded on a 69-54 final.

Senior forward Olivia Turner (Clinton, Md.) led the Lady Shock with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Sophomore guard Demyra Selby (Salisbury, Md.) reached double figures as well, adding five rebounds, an assist, and two steals to her 10 points. Gallego-Berea finished with nine points, seven rebounds, and a block.

Tumasz emerged as the prime benefactor of Trossi's point play, finding the open spots on the perimeter for five (5-of-7, .714) of the Griffins' eight (8-of-12, .667) second-half three-point baskets. She also totaled four rebounds and an assist en route to matching her season-high. Kuhnen finished with 13 points, four rebounds, an assist, and two steals, while Glenn served as the third Griffin in double figures with 12 points in excess of her six rebounds. Trossi offered eight points, six rebounds, nine assists, and two steals.

Chestnut Hill College resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) on Tuesday, December 6, when they visit Goldey-Beacom College for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
