12/6/2016 8:43:00 PM

Box Score Wilmington, Del. - (12/6/2016) – Behind a 19-point, 11-rebound, double-double effort from senior forward Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.), Chestnut Hill College led until late in the third quarter of this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Goldey-Beacom College. Unfortunately, the junior guard-forward combination of Lexi Bruno (Millville, N.J.) and Britani Bryson (Hampton, Va.) headlined the storm that brought the Lightning a 78-69 league-win over the Griffins. A Scarlet and Gold backcourt of sophomore Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) and junior Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) both joined Kuhnen in double figures, combining for 24 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and a pair of steals.

Kuhnen and Tumasz shot Chestnut Hill College (5-2, 2-1) to a 12-point, 25-13, lead by the end of the first quarter. A trade of early second-quarter buckets kept it there, 27-15, with 8:47 left until halftime. From there, Goldey-Beacom College (4-5, 4-1) began to slowly breakdown the Griffins' cushion, quickly cutting the margin to four points, 27-23 (6:43), before a pair of Kuhnen layups put the exclamation point on a resurgent 6-1 run that left the difference at nine points, 33-24 (4:37). But that process nearly repeated itself before intermission as the home team cut the spread back to four points, 33-29 (3:50), only for Chestnut Hill College to reinforce their position to seven points, 40-33, for the break.

The Lightning continued their charge after halftime, initially thwarted by the efforts of freshman guard Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.) before matching the Griffins at 51-51 (3:37). A Kuhnen free throw and a basket from sophomore forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) gave Chestnut Hill College a brief 54-51 reprisal at 2:17. But Bryson was just as effective for Goldey-Beacom College, sparking the Lightning for a 6-0 closing run that left the hosts up 57-54 heading to the fourth quarter. There, the home team gradually grew their advantage to as many as 11 points, 79-65, in the waning seconds (0:19).

Bruno led all scorers with 21 points, but Bryson was the engine for Goldey-Beacom College, generating 20 points and securing 10 rebounds in excess of four assists. Bruno added six rebounds, five assists, and a steal to her scoring. Sophomore guard Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, Pa.) was the third Lightning in double figures; she finished with 17 points while also recording seven rebounds, and a block.

Kuhnen hit 3-of-4 (.750) from three point range in a 7-of-15 (.467) shooting performance. She also connected on 2-of-4 (.500) from the free throw line while recording three assists, a block, and a steal. Trossi finished with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Tumasz offered 11 points, a rebound, two assists, and a steal. She also hit three shots (3-of-7, .429) from three point territory.

The Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team returns to action tomorrow, Wednesday, December 6, when they host the University of Bridgeport for their Military Appreciation Night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
