Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (2/17/2016) – With every game now more important than the last, Chestnut Hill College visited Holy Family University this evening for a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division contest. The Tigers held the upper hand for a majority of a 73-56 final that saw sophomore forward
Edward McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) led three Griffins in double figures with 15 points. Freshman forward
Bryant Quill (Pottstown, Pa.) played a significant role in the Griffins' early second-half rally, which brought them within three points of the CACC South-leading Tigers.
After spotting Holy Family University (22-4, 16-1) a 15-point advantage, 29-14, Chestnut Hill College (11-14, 8-9) capitalized on a series of missed Tiger three-pointers, reducing the deficit by more than half, 29-22, for intermission. Six of the Griffins eight-point run came at the free throw line, where freshmen
Dakpe Yiljep (Samaru-Zaria, Nigeria), senior guard
Ryan Griffin (West Friendship, Md.), and McWade converted charity strokes over the final four minutes (4:06) of the first half.
Thanks to the point play of sophomore guard
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) and the rebounding of freshman forward
Antonio Toplyn Jr. (Sicklerville, N.J.), Chestnut Hill College was able to keep the difference at seven points, 35-28, with 15:31 still to play. That is when Quill entered the contest. After a couple of Tiger baskets, 40-28, the first-year energy man pocketed a pair of steals and scored eight points in a 14-5 run that reduced the Tiger advantage to a mere three-points, 42-39, midway through (10:41) the second half. Unfortunately a couple missed three point attempts and some poorly-timed fouls sunk the Griffins back behind an 11-point, 54-43 (7:52), margin that eventually grew to 22 points, 65-43, before the four-minute mark (4:25).
Senior guard Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the Tigers' top performer with 23 points, four rebounds, six assists, and two steals. His backcourt partner, and classmate, Turhan Griffin (Philadelphia, Pa.) was their only other double digit scorer; he added 11 points to a rebound, an assist, and a steal. Senior forward Hunter Wysocki (Howell, N.J.) came off the Tiger bench for a team-high 11 rebounds, nine points, an assist, a block, and a steal. He was helped on the glass by fellow senior forward Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa.), who offered eight points, two blocks, and two steals to his 10 rebounds.
McWade added five rebounds and two assists to his offensive production. Isaac and Quill both finished with 11 points; the former also recording five rebounds, three assists, and a steal while the latter collected five rebounds, an assist, a block, and two steals.
Chestnut Hill College welcomes their next CACC South Division rival to Sorgenti Arena on Saturday, February 20, when they host Philadelphia University in a 3:00 p.m. Senior Day contest.
