Box Score Norristown, Pa. – (3/22/2016) – Testing their meddle against one of the top teams in the nation for the first time this season, Chestnut Hill College welcomed #3 Millersville University to Latshaw-McCarthy Field for today's nine-inning, non-conference tilt. The Griffins got started early with a pair of first-inning runs courtesy of an error by the Marauder third baseman and singles from junior right fielder Joseph Monaghan (Doylestown, Pa.) and senior first baseman Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.), but the Marauders' six-run second inning laid the ground work for their eventual 9-7 win over the Scarlet and Gold. Monaghan finished the contest 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a run-batted-in (RBI).

With one out in the bottom of the first inning, a misplay by the Millersville University (20-1) third baseman allowed junior centerfielder Brandon DiBona (Southampton, Pa.) to reach base. He immediately advanced to third base on a Monaghan single through the right side and a batter later he scored on a sacrifice fly from senior left fielder Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.), 1-0. After a Monaghan stolen base, Chestnut Hill College (10-10) added to their early advantage on a Campion single up the middle, 2-0. But the momentum did not last long as four Millersville University (20-1) singles, two walks, a hit batsman, and an error led to a six-run second inning that put the Griffins behind the eight-ball, 6-2. Millersville University added to their lead with a pair of sixth-inning doubles, 7-2, however, the Griffins still had some fight in them as they netted two runs in the bottom of the frame with a one-out Monaghan triple to center field, 7-3, and a Looby sacrifice fly, 7-4. Both sides plated two runs in the eighth inning to bring the spread to 9-6 heading to the final at-bats. There, senior pitcher Casey Kern (Stony Point, N.Y.) retired the Marauders in order before a Griffins' ninth-inning rally was cut short after a lead-off single from freshman catcher Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.), Marauder error, a walk, and a two-out DiBona single cut the final deficit to 9-7.

Behind Monaghan's three-hit effort, DiBona laced two hits (2-for-5), scored three times, and recorded an RBI. Looby became the seventh Griffins on the 150-career hit list with a fourth-inning double to left center field. It was his only hit of the game, but he delivered two of the Griffins' runs via the sacrifice fly. Campion also knocked in two runs.

Chestnut Hill College continues their brief break from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a three-game series at the College of St. Rose. The first game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch on Friday, March 25.
