Men's Box Score | Women's Box Score | Philadelphia, Pa. - (3/26/2016) – The Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis teams shared the campus courts for the first time this season as they welcomed the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) for an afternoon dual match. The men finished first with the Griffins winning in shutout fashion, 9-0, before junior
Louise Charley (St. Jean de Luz, France) completed the sweep in a 5-4 women's win.
Chestnut Hill College (5-4) breezed through doubles play as they defeated UDC (2-6) all three flights. Sophomores
Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) and
Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) were the first ones done with their 8-2 win at number two doubles, 8-2. Sophomore
Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) and freshman
Pierre Kohler (Les Sables d'Olonne, France) were next at number one doubles, 8-1, and seniors
Henry Boyle (London, England) and
Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) followed in the third flight, 8-5.
Singles came with a little more of a struggle with the Firebirds forcing the Griffins to three sets in the second, first, and fourth individual matches. Regalin end his day first with his 6-0, 6-2, triumph at number three singles. Kohler was next, winning number two singles 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Bocaletto also won his three-set match, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, before Ducretot, Boyle, and freshman
Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) cleaned up at number four, 5-7, 6-0, 11-9, number six, 6-1, 6-2, and number five singles, 6-3, 6-2, respectively.
The women's match did not come as easily as the Griffins led 5-3 before Charley saved the day with her 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, comeback victory at number five singles. Chestnut Hill College (12-6) owned a 2-1 advantage after doubles play with senior
Hayley Craskey (Ashton, Pa.) and freshman
Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil) first winning number three doubles, 8-5, before senior
Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) and junior
Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France) combined for a 9-7 win at number one doubles. The second team flight ended on the same final, 9-7, but this time the University of the District of Columbia (5-7) was the victor.
As play moved to singles, Josso advanced the Griffin advantage to 4-2 with her 6-2, 6-2, win at number one singles. But the Firebirds then won number three singles, 6-1, 2-6, 7-5, before senior captain
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) reestablished the two-point difference at 5-3 with her 7-5, 6-4, win at number two singles. Unfortunately, Firebird wins at number four singles, 6-3, 6-4, and number six singles, 6-3, 1-0, put Charley on the spot in the fifth individual flight. After falling behind 6-4, she battled back with straight 6-0, 6-2, victories to win the Griffins the match.
The Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis teams both play again on Friday, April 1, when Millersville University visits campus for a 2:00 p.m. dual match.
