Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (3/30/2016) – Chestnut Hill College's break from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) was anything but as they welcomed #21 West Chester University to campus for today's doubleheader. The Golden Rams lived up to their billing, first defeating the Griffins 8-3 before completing their sweep with a 10-0, six-inning victory. Freshman
Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.) knocked in two of the Scarlet and Gold runs in the opener before challenging West Chester University ace, sophomore Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa.) for 4.1 innings of the nightcap.
Eberhard did all she could to keep Chestnut Hill College (8-26) in the second game as her counterpart, Houck, held a no-hitter and struck out seven through three innings. Junior shortstop
Corie Apodaca (Ontario, Calif.) spoiled the bid with a two-out single in the fourth inning. But it was already too late for the Griffins, who trailed West Chester University (27-3) by three runs, 3-0, after the Golden Rams' third-inning at-bat. They added three more runs to their lead in the fifth inning, 6-0, and eventually pushed the deficit to 10 runs, 10-0, with a four-run sixth-inning. Senior
Sofia Cedrone (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded the other Chestnut Hill College hit with a pinch-hit single in the fifth inning, while Eberhard limited the Golden Rams to four earned runs on eight hits and a walk. She struck out three in the loss (0-4).
West Chester University put some early runs on the scoreboard in the opener as they scored one in the first inning on a pair of singles and a walk after two outs, 1-0. Another in the second inning on a lead-off home run from freshman catcher Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa.), 2-0, and a couple in the third inning on two hits and two Griffin errors, 4-0. The Scarlet and Gold got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning on a safety squeeze from freshman center fielder
Marissa Maioran (Rockaway, N.J.), 4-1, and an Eberhard grounder to second, 4-2, but the tallies were just motivation for the Golden Rams to scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning, 8-2. Eberhard singled in another Griffin run in the seventh inning, 8-3, unfortunately the rally went no further with senior Katie Erb (Douglassville, Pa.) recording her sixth (6) save of the season on a line-out double play. Freshman right fielder
Jordan Clark (Greenwood, Del.) recorded two hits (2-for-3) and scored a run, while Eberhard recorded her two runs-batted-in (RBI) in a 1-for-4 effort.
The Chestnut Hill College softball team travels to Felician College for their next CACC doubleheader, which is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start on Saturday, April 2.
