Box Score Millersville, Pa. – (3/6/2016) – Returning from their spring trip contests at the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) and Shorter University, Chestnut Hill College controlled the momentum early in today's, Sunday, March 6, tightly-played contest at Millersville University. An early 3-0 Griffin lead was negated by 6-1 Marauder run that put the home team in the driver's seat at halftime, 7-6. But after intermission scoring came at a premium and a pair of home goals midway through the frame allowed them to stay ahead for good in a 12-9 victory. Senior midfielder
Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) led the Griffin offense with her second hat trick of the season while junior midfielder
Rachel Perry (Gilbertsville, Pa.) captained the defensive effort with two ground balls, two draws, and four caused turnovers.
It was a Millersville University (3-1) goal with 23 (0:23) seconds remaining in the first half that gave the visitors a 7-6 edge at intermission. After leading 3-0 just before the 21-minute mark (21:02) on goals from Keimig (1-0 at 26:27), junior midfielder
Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) (2-0 at 25:05), and junior midfielder
Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) (3-0 at 21:02), Chestnut Hill College (1-3) allowed the Marauders to get back into the contest midway through the opening frame. A connection between junior attack Taylor Davis (Stewartstown, Pa.) and sophomore attack Sabrina Fusco (Glen Mills, Pa.) at 17:31 (3-1) broke the Griffin streak, but was immediately answered by an unassisted Keimig goal at 16:40, 4-1. Although, less than a minute later (15:37), the Marauders began a five-goal run with a transfer from senior midfielder Bridget Hufnagel (Lancaster, Pa.) and freshman defender Tess Kircher (Elliot City, Md.), 4-2. Sophomore midfielder
Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) stopped the bleeding with an unassisted goal at 4:18, 6-5, and sophomore attack
Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) tied the contest up at 6-6 with 2:30 left in the half, but Davis' last-minute goal (0:23) served as the separator at halftime, 7-6. O'Leary wasted little time knotting the game back up after intermission, 7-7, scoring her eighth goal of the season, unassisted, at 23:21. Unfortunately, it was followed by back-to-back Marauder tallies (12:25 & 11:39, 9-7) that returned the momentum to the home side in 5-2 run until the final horn, 12-9.
Fusco was the Marauders leading scorer with four goals, but junior attack Renee Landis (Bel Air, Md.) was their top performer with five points on three goals and two assists. She also recorded three ground balls, three draws, and a caused turnover. Davis finished with four points, adding two assists to two goals, while providing three ground balls and three draws. In goal, freshman Bryana Weston-Wyatt (Edgewood, Md.) earned with win (3-1) with seven saves and two ground balls.
Keimig added a ground ball and a caused turnover to her scoring performance. Galantich and O'Leary recorded two goals apiece with the former additionally providing an assist, a ground ball, and a draw, while the latter offered two ground balls and a draw in excess of her tallies. Sanders and Leckonby totaled a goal and an assist apiece; Sanders also recorded four ground balls and caused a turnover as Leckonby recovered three ground balls and caused three turnovers. Junior goalkeeper
Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) made 11 saves, recovered two ground balls, and caused a turnover in the loss (1-3).
