Box Score 2 Waterbury, Conn. – (4/10/2016) – Junior
Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif.) and senior
Kaitlyn Johnson (New Boston, N.H.) did all they could to keep Chestnut Hill College in contention with Post University this afternoon. But only senior third baseman senior
Sofia Cedrone (Philadelphia, Pa.) was hitting in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) twin bill with the Eagles, who tallied a pair of league wins by respective 1-0 and 3-1 finals. Cedrone was 4-for-7 with a run-batted-in (RBI). Holloway and Johnson combined to allow four runs on 12 hits and four walks while striking out a dozen.
A lead-off home run in the second inning by sophomore right fielder Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) stood as the only score in the opener as Holloway went pitch-for-pitch with senior Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) for seven innings. Unfortunately, the Chestnut Hill College (10-30, 7-9) offense did not hold up their end of the deal as senior second baseman
Julie Heaton (Berlin, N.J.) was their only runner to reach scoring position. She did so after lead-off walk and a succeeding Cedrone single. But the opportunity was lost with a pop-out back to the circle and a pair of strikeouts.
Senior catcher
Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.), junior center fielder
Ashleigh Sharp (Dresher, Pa.), and Cedrone were responsible for the Griffins' three hits. Holloway (5-12) held the Eagles to one run on five hits and two walks while striking out eight.
Chestnut Hill College put a run on the scoreboard in their first at-bat of game two thanks to a one-out walk to freshman right fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.), a two-out walk to Heaton, and a Cedrone single to left field. But the home side matched the tally in the bottom of the frame before adding solo scores in the fourth and fifth innings. Cedrone also singled in the third and the fifth innings, still the Griffins were not able to break through on either occasion as Esque backed up freshman pitcher Leslie Dennis (Swansea, Mass.) in a combined seven-hit, three-walk effort that saw the Griffins strike out nine times in seven frames. In opposition, Johnson (5-10) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four.
Chestnut Hill College softball team plays their next CACC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 12, when they visit Georgian Court University for a 2:300 p.m. twin bill.
