Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/13/2016) – Accounting for half of Chestnut Hill College's hits in run-shortened Cougar wins of 10-0 (6) and 8-0 (5), seniors, left fielder
Nicole Carney (Ontario, Calif.) and designated player
Laura Eidam (South Salem, N.Y.) each recorded a hit in both games of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader versus #21 Caldwell University. The visitors lived up to their billing, scoring early and often behind a pair of home runs and seven runs-batted-in (RBI) from sophomore Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.).
Caldwell University (22-10, 17-3) got right to work, using two singles, two Griffin errors, and some heads-up base running claim an early 3-0 lead over Chestnut Hill College (11-31, 8-10). The Cougars added a run in the second inning, 4-0, two runs in the fifth inning, 6-0, and four runs in the sixth inning, 10-0. The Griffins had their best opportunity to score in the third inning with a two-out, ground-rule Carney double to center field, and a walk to freshman right fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.). But the threat was quieted by senior pitcher Amber Padilla (Chino, Calif.), who induced fielder's choice for the final out of the inning. Eidam, junior shortstop
Corie Apodaca (Ontario, Calif.), and junior center fielder
Ashleigh Sharp (Dresher, Pa.) also recorded hits for the Scarlet and Gold.
The Cougars continued their offense in the second game with two runs in the first, second, third, and fourth innings, 8-0. Carney led off the Griffins first at-bat of the nightcap with a single up the middle. A sacrifice moved her to second base and a grounder to short advanced her to third base, but junior pitcher Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, N.J.) got the final out of the inning with a called third strike. Sharp got to third base after a lead-off walk in the third inning and an unfortunate double play squandered a fourth-inning, leadoff single from Eidam, but the Griffins best chance to score came in their final at-bat. There, in the fifth inning, freshman pinch hitters
Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.) and
Marissa Maioran (Rockaway, N.Y.) began the at-bat with a pair of singles. A fielder's choice moved Sauer to third base, but a strike out and fly to right field ended the game and the evening.
The Griffins return to the campus diamond tomorrow, April 14, when they host Philadelphia University in a 3:00 p.m. (DH).
