Box Score 2 New Castle, Del. – (4/16/2016) – After not defeating Wilmington University once in eight years, Chestnut Hill College did it twice in one day with today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader sweep. The Griffins won the opener 6-3 thanks to a four-run fourth inning and six innings of winning relief from junior
Dylan Borawski (Hatfield, Pa.) before scoring two game-winning, eighth-inning runs on a pair of walks with the bases loaded, 4-3. Senior catcher
Robert Slagle III (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) recorded three hits (3-for-5) in the opener while junior right fielder
Joseph Monaghan (Doylestown, Pa.) split four hits (4-for-8) between the two the two affairs.
A sacrifice fly from senior left field
Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) scored the Griffins' first run of the opener in their first at-bat against Wilmington University (10-20, 8-4), 1-0. Another from sophomore second baseman
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave Chestnut Hill College a 2-0 advantage, before a lead-off single and a pair of two-out doubles helped the Wildcats even the contest at 2-2 in the second inning. Chestnut Hill College (17-16, 8-4) responded in the fourth inning where they scored four runs in the fourth inning. A Monaghan single led-off the at-bat and it was followed by a bunt single from freshman third baseman
Zach Szumigala (Fairless Hills, Pa.), before a Wildcat pitching change was followed by a walk, a wild pitch, 3-2, and a one-out single from junior center fielder
Brandon DiBona (Southampton, Pa.) put the Griffins in the lead, 4-2. The rest of the Scarlet and Gold runs came across after a fielder's choice from senior first baseman
Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.), 5-2, and a Slagle grounder back to the mound, 6-2. The Wildcats got one run back in the bottom of the fifth inning, 6-3, but that would be the only one allowed by Borawski. He earned his third win (3-2) of the season with two strike outs in six innings of relief.
Slagle's pinch-hit single through the right side set the stage for the Griffins' two-run eighth inning. He was relieved at first base by junior
Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), who moved to second on a pinch-hit walk by senior
Dalton Cozart (Commerce Twp, Mich.) before a Wildcat pitching change. A Campion sacrifice, a walk to sophomore designated hitter
Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.), and a walk to Looby scored the first, 3-3. The second came soon after with Monaghan drawing a walk on six pitches, 4-3. Junior
Ezra Bye (Teaneck, N.J.) and freshman
Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.) combined for three innings of scoreless relief in which Bye earned the win (1-0) with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and Cattai collecting his third save of the season with two innings of one-hit baseball.
The Griffins face their next CACC foe on Monday, April 18, when they visit Nyack College for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
