Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/23/2016) – Chestnut Hill College got off to a good start on senior day with a 6-4 game-one victory over Nyack College. Unfortunately, same success was not duplicated in the second game with the Warriors using two fifth-inning runs to conclude a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) split. Five seniors recorded at least a hit in both games while senior pitcher
Kaitlyn Johnson (New Boston, N.H.) shined in the first game with a career high 13 strikeouts.
Chestnut Hill College (12-40, 9-17) got on the scoreboard first, scoring three second-inning runs on a pair of run-scoring singles from senior left fielder
Nicole Carney (Ontario, Calif.) and senior catcher
Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) a bases-loaded walk to junior shortstop
Corie Apodaca (Ontario, Calif.), 3-0. Nyack College (9-39, 6-20) cut into the Griffin advantage with a run in the top of the fourth inning, 3-1, but a lead-off walk to junior first baseman
Jenna Long (North Wildwood, N.J.) and a Warrior error was the spark for three more Scarlet and Gold runs in the bottom of the frame, 6-1. With plenty of cushion, Johnson took her time retiring the Warriors, who scrapped together three more runs before the final out was secured, 6-4. She allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks for her sixth (6-13) win of the season.
The first four innings of game two went by scoreless. The Warriors went ahead in the fifth inning when sophomore center fielder Elyanna Rivas (Los Angeles, Calif.) and freshman catcher Katie Lupinacci (Bordentown, N.J.) both reached home courtesy of a two-out double from freshman third baseman Alissa Brugnoli (Hamilton, N.J.), 2-0. The Griffins came away empty handed the rest of the way in a 2-0 defeat. Freshman Brittany Blair (Yonkers, N.Y.) allowed only three hits and struck out three in her first victory (1-5) of the season. Junior
Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif) took the loss (6-15) despite allowing no earned runs on five hits. She struck out two.
Prior to today's league twin bill, Carney, third baseman
Sofia Cedrone (Philadelphia, Pa.), infielder
Laura Eidam (South Salem, N.Y.), right fielder
Francesca Lynn Faillace (Philadelphia, Pa.), second baseman
Julie Heaton (Berlin, N.J.), Johnson, and catcher
Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) were recognized as part of annual Senior Day proceedings.
The Chestnut Hill College softball team finishes their CACC schedule with a 9-17 record and will concludes their season tomorrow, Sunday, April 24, with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader against Pace University.
