Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/24/2016) – What a difference a day makes as the once rain-soaked courts at Chestnut Hill College we primed for today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Final. For the fourth straight year, the Scarlet and Gold served as tournament host and challenger to the #1 Concordia College (NY), who used a 3-0 sweep of doubles play to defeat #2 Chestnut Hill College in a 5-1 final. Henry Boyle (London, England) recorded the Griffins' lone point, 7-5, 6-1, at number six singles; it was the first championship-match point earned by Chestnut Hill College.
Finishing in a little under three hours, the match's first point at number three doubles. There Concordia College (NY) (12-4) won earned the edge with an 8-1 win. The top team flight was next to conclude, doing so in the Clippers' favor 8-2. The sophomore duo of
Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) and
Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) gave Chestnut Hill College's (14-7) best showing, pushing the second doubles match to an 8-4 final.
In singles play, the deficit extended to 4-0 on a 6-4, 6-3, final at number one singles. Boyle then broke up the shutout, enduring for a 7-5 win in the first set and concluding with a 6-1 victory in the second set. Unfortunately, only minutes later the Clippers ended play with a 6-3, 6-3, number four singles score.
Following the match, championship and postseason awards were presented. The Griffins offered two competitors to the 2016 CACC Men's Tennis All-Tournament Team in freshman
Pierre Kohler (Les Sables d'Olonne, France) and junior
Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France). They were joined on the team by Concordia College freshmen Luca Corigliano (Heppenheim, Germany), Alessandro Evangelisti (Latina, Italy), sophomore Jui Mao (Taipei, Taiwan), and senior Ofir Ginat (Raa'nana, Israel). Evangelisti was named the 2016 CACC Championship Most Valuable Player (MVP).
