Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/24/2016) – Freshman catcher
Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.) broke up a game-one no-hit bid for junior Kaitlynn Nelson (Ojai, Calif.), who salvaged the shutout for Pace University in a 9-0, five-inning final. The Setter beat Chestnut Hill College in game two as well, this time taking the full seven to do so, 8-3. Junior shortstop
Corie Apodaca (Ontario, Calif.) was 3-for-3 in the second game, connecting for a pair of doubles and a run-batted-in.
Nelson kept the opener moving, retiring the a dozen straight Griffins before Riotte led off Chestnut Hill College (12-42) fifth-inning at-bat with a blooper over the third baseman's head. She moved to second base with a walk to senior designated player
Laura Eidam (South Salem, N.Y.) and onto third base with a grounder back to the mound. Unfortunately, the Griffins were left stranded on a pair of game-ending strikeouts.
Looking for revenge, Chestnut Hill College scored early in game one. Freshman right fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) sent a 1-1 pitch to the right center wall for a one-out double in the first inning. It was followed by an Apodaca single and a run-scoring grounder to second off the bat of freshman second baseman
Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.), 1-0. The Griffins added a second run in the third inning on a lead-off home run freshman third baseman
Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.), 2-0. But in the latter frames of the affair the Setters posted a pair of four-run innings to outweigh a fifth-inning RBI double from Apodaca, 8-3.
The Chestnut Hill College softball team finishes the season at 12-42 overall and 9-17 in CACC play.
