In the opener, Chestnut Hill College (14-13, 5-1) put runs on the scoreboard in every inning but the fourth and six, while Bloomfield College (5-16, 2-6) scored all three of their tallies in the bottom of the third. It was a lead-off home run from Craig in the first inning, 1-0, a Craig single to centerfield in the second inning, 2-0, and a two-out rally that put the Scarlet and Gold ahead 4-0 after their third at-bat. In the bottom of the frame, the Bears briefly narrowed the deficit to a single run, 4-3, before the Griffins added insurance with a fifth-inning single from junior right fielder
Joseph Monaghan (Doylestown, Pa.), 5-3, a seventh-inning Monaghan double, 6-3, an eighth-inning Looby single, 7-3, and five run ninth-inning that was highlighted by a two-run single from junior center fielder
Brandon DiBona (Southampton, Pa.) and Looby's three-run homer.

The Bears cut the deficit in half with a run in the fourth inning, 2-1, only for Looby to reestablish the cushion with an eighth-inning fielder's choice, 3-1. Unfortunately, the Bears got to Battai this time, scoring twice in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extra innings, 3-3. The stalemate continued for four frames and ended with home team walking off on a 13
th-inning fielder's choice, 4-3.
