Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/6/2016) – The first game of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Holy Family University was a 2-0 contest until six Tiger run runs between the fourth and fifth innings ended the game early (five innings). They carried their momentum into the second game where they took advantage of six Chestnut Hill College errors in a 10-4 final. Senior catcher
Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) and senior third baseman senior
Sofia Cedrone (Philadelphia, Pa.) split their two hits between the two games while in the nightcap, senior left fielder
Nicole Carney (Ontario, Calif.) came through with two hits that included a second-inning two-run triple.
A pair of fielder's choices negated a one-out Kehr single in the Griffins' first at-bat. Chestnut Hill College (8-28, 5-7) got freshman right fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) aboard in the second inning with a one-out walk, but after a sacrifice and a grounder to third base that threat was ended as well. With two outs in the fourth inning, a Cedrone double down the left field line and a following Magee single gave the Griffins their best chance to score, but she was caught between first and second in an attempt to allow Cedrone to cross the plate. A fifth-inning, lead-off single from junior first baseman
Jenna Long (North Wildwood, N.J.) was the last chance for the Scarlet and Gold to get something going, but the rally was snubbed out with a strike out, a fielder's choice, and a fly to left field. In the bottom of fifth inning, Holy Family University (14-14, 8-6) added three runs to a 5-0 lead, ending the opener after 4.1 innings.
After seeing two more Tigers runs in the first inning of game two, 2-0, the Griffins scored three runs of their own in the top of the third inning to hold their only advantage of the afternoon, 3-2. The at-bat started with a double to centerfield from senior second baseman
Julie Heaton (Berlin, N.J.) and quickly escalated with a Cedrone single to left field, a walk to Magee, a pair of fielder's choices, 2-1, and a two-out triple from Carney, 3-2. Unfortunately, the advantage was short-lived as Holy Family University responded with five in runs in the bottom of the inning, 7-3, another in the fifth inning, 8-3, and two more in the sixth before closing out the twin bill on a 10-4 final.
The Griffins continue their CACC schedule on Friday, April 8, with a 3:00 p.m. at Felician College.
