Box Score Wilmington, Del. – (1/19/2017) – Resuming play from a suspended Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on December 6, Chestnut Hill College visited Goldey-Beacom College for the second half of a 42-32 Lightning-led spread. The home team wasted little time solidifying their position in the high-scoring conclusion, pushing the difference to 20 points, 65-45, 12:48 remaining in an eventual 89-72 final. Sophomore forward
Bryant Quill (Pottstown, Pa.), who led the Scarlet and Gold after the initial tip with a dozen (12) first half points, headlined four Griffins in double figures with his 14 points.
In the half played in 2016, Chestnut Hill College (4-14, 1-10) turned the ball over six times in the first four minutes of play (17:01). That allowed Goldey-Beacom College (14-3, 9-2) a 12-0 (17:09) head start. The Lightning rolled that lead into a 15-0 advantage before the 15-minute mark (15:33). It was a jumper from junior forward
Ed McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) at 15:11 that broke the ice, 15-2, from there a pair of Quill three pointers cut the deficit to single digits, 17-8, at 13:34. The peak of the Griffin rally came eight minutes later as McWade hit the first of two free throws to bring Chestnut Hill College within six points, 30-24, with 5:43 remaining. Unfortunately, the Lightning endured to a 42-32 halftime advantage thanks to the trailblazing of senior guard Khalil Keel (Philadelphia, Pa.). His 13 points led Goldey-Beacom College at intermission.
Today's conclusion saw the Lightning expand their favor to 14 points, 51-37, at 17:43. Still, a little more than a minute later (16:21) it was only seven points, 51-44, as the Griffins capitalized on a pair of Goldey-Beacom College turnovers with an Awl three point basket, a layup from freshman guard
Nasir Bell (Philadelphia, Pa.), and a jumper from junior guard
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.). But that was as close as Chestnut Hill College would get with the Lightning exploding for 14 points in the next four minutes, separating for a 20 point, 65-45, led by 12:48. The final Griffin rally followed, it returned the difference to 12 points, 72-60, on an Isaac layup at 7:25, but concluding free throws saw it that the Lightning earned a 17-point win.
With 15 points in the second half, senior guard Riyan Williams (Dunkirk, Md.) finished as Goldey-Beacom College's top scorer. He totaled two rebounds, two blocks, and three steals in excess of his game-high 24 points. Junior forward Dante Thompson (Coram, N.Y.) and Keel also finished with over 20 points; the former pairing 21 points with six rebounds an assist, two blocks and two steals and the latter providing six rebounds and two assists in addition to his 20 bench points.
Quill finished the affair with, a career-high, four made three pointers (4-of-6, .667). He also recorded four rebounds and three steals in excess of 14 points. Junior center
Chris Evans (Philadelphia, Pa.), sophomore guard
Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.), and Isaac joined him in double figures; Evans scored all of his 12 points in the second half and grabbed two rebounds, Awl offered 10 points and two rebounds, while Isaac contributed 10 points, two rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
