Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (1/24/2017) – Other than a pair of early ties, Chestnut Hill College led for the duration of this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Philadelphia University. The Griffins claimed a 75-69 victory, splitting the CACC series with four players in double figures; sophomore forward
Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) was the top performer in the quartet with her fifth double-double of the season (18 points and 10 rebounds).
Senior forward Jackie McCarron (Harleysville, Pa.) answered the first two Chestnut Hill College (11-7, 7-5) baskets of the evening for Philadelphia University (11-9, 6-5), knotting the game for the last time with 8:29 (4-4) remaining in the first quarter. From there, the Griffins separated with an inside-outside combination that flourished behind the steady paint play of Wildgoose and junior forward
Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.) and the timely perimeter shooting of senior forward
Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) and junior guard
Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.). As a result, the Scarlet and Gold gained a 25-19 first-quarter lead, which they eventually advanced to 15 points, 51-36, by halftime.
In the third quarter, the Lady Rams whittled the deficit to eight points, 55-47, at 2:54, but before the end for the frame the Griffins reestablished their advantage at 15 points, 64-49 (0:26). They took a 13-point (64-51) into the fourth quarter, where they escaped the first Philadelphia University reprise with back-to-back Kuhnen three pointers at 5:42 (71-62). The second Lady Ram rush came soon after and cut the Griffin lead to just three points, 71-68, before the two-minute mark (2:07). A Chestnut Hill College offensive foul gave the home team the chance that they had fought for, but after a pair of Philadelphia University missed shots and a turnover, Chestnut Hill College stood at the charity stripe for potential game-clinching free throws. Unfortunately, they missed those, needing another unsuccessful Lady Ram game-tying attempt to seal the contest with a pair of Tumasz free throws at 0:24 (73-68).
Freshman guard Alynna Williams (Ambler, Pa.) was the top scorer for Philadelphia University, totaling 17 points in excess of five rebounds and three assists. She was supported by McCarron and junior guard Rachel Day (Horsham, Pa.); they finished with 15 points and 14 points, respectively, and both grabbed four rebounds.
Wildgoose's game-high 18 points came on 9-of-17 (.529) shooting effort. She totaled 10 rebounds to complete the double-double. Kuhnen (3-of-3, 1.000), Tumasz (3-of-10, .300), and freshman forward
Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.) (3-of-8, .375) each hit three, three point baskets. Kuhnen finished the contest with 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Tumasz with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. And Glenn with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a block.
The Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Saturday, January 28, to host Felician University in a 1:00 p.m. CACC contest.
